McCain Camp Lying again about Ayers:
"McCain Camp Lying About Ayers Strategy

posted by Ari Berman

The McCain campaign is spinning false information to reporters about its campaign strategy.

Following McCain's poor debate performance, The Politico reported Tuesday night that McCain wouldn't focus on Obama's flimsy past ties to Bill Ayers going forward.

Then, the next day, the McCain campaign sent two emails about Ayers to reporters and Palin and McCain spoke at length about the topic in an interview with Sean Hannity.

Yet the McCain campaign still claimed not to be playing the Ayers card. Here's how Politico's Jonathan Martin parsed the strategy yesterday afternoon:

As McCain advisers suggested last night after the debate, the GOP nominee is unlikely to bring up Ayers on his own. The strategy seems clear: McCain will hit Obama mostly on policy and Palin (and, today at least, Cindy) will get more personal.

If McCain inserts Ayers into his stump and if/when you see an ad on Ayers from the campaign or even the RNC, you'll know the thinking of the candidate and his campaign has changed.

Sure enough, this morning the McCain campaign released a web about about...you guessed it: Bill Ayers!

Oh, the hypocrisy. (I'm not going to link to the ad. If you want to watch it, do a "a google," as McCain likes to say.)

The McCain campaign is obviously running out of options, but it's unclear why McCain keeps up the Ayers offensive, when Republican strategists and commentators across the board have panned it, as I reported yesterday, and the polls haven't moved as a result.

Yet the McCain campaign seems to have at least convinced its die-hard supporters that Obama is a terrorist. Watch this video at a McCain rally in Strongsville, Ohio yesterday. It's an incredibly damning reflection of what the Republican Party led by McCain-Palin has become.
