Why I WILL vote for Bush - gotta take one for the team
Ok...so perhaps I'm more of a moderate than most of the folks who patrol these forums. But I've got to take a long term view of this election. Here's what I see.

First, lets talk about our current economic, world situation. The economy will NEVER do what it did under Clinton. I'm a realist to believe that this was NOT a result of anything that any one person did. It was a combination of several factors which came together to create an atypical growth in the stock market and personal wealth. As this is what I believe, I feel that despite the turn around in the economy, it will never return in the near term to the "glory days" of the late 90's. This means that whatever B does in the next term, he'll never have the success that everyone is looking for.

On the world stage, with continued issues in Iraq and an expanding terrorist threat (at least via perception) given the situations in Russia and Chechnya, I don't see how there will be a meaningful diversion away from the terrorist threat...Not so long as people are blowing things and themselves up.

Now lets assume that Kerry is elected. He's saddled with tremendous debt. The tax increases he is proposing will generate negative perception at least at some level. He'll have to determine what he will do with Iraq, and regardless of what he does there, it will work to his benefit. If it turns out well, people will give Bush the credit, if it goes badly and he pulls the troops out in a failed campaign, he will get the blame.

One the home front, I expect that he would have as much luck as Clinton in getting Nationalized Health care. People are just not willing to put up the cash for it at this time. This certainly has the possibility of getting bogged down and failing miserably. I don't see how this can be pushed through with the country divided so evenly and with the house and Senate so closely divided.

I see Kerry coming in like Carter. A good man with good ideas, but crippled by his inability to build a consensus. He'll be targeted and any proposed legislation will be darned hard...every step will be a battle.

So the question is...Do we realize that regardless of the outcome, the fight for this election is already lost, allow bush to finish out his terms and focus all efforts on the 2008 election when we can put up a candidate that we can all get all get behind.

Personally, I think that if Kerry is elected, he'll be one term president and tarred and feathered enough with what he will inherit that we'll have 12 more years of republican control as opposed to letting them finish the job of hanging themselves.

Flame Away.

That is ridiculous.

I think the most important thing you forgot to mention is that Bush is hell bent on making as munch money as possible through the sufferings of others. Why the fuck would you allow him another four years just because it will be an uphill battle for Kerry for the next four years. That is bullshit.

The choices are simple. Do you want a president who doesn't care how much death and destruction he causes in order to fatten his and his friends wallets?

Or, do you want a president who can start trying to correct the wrongs that Bush is responsible for and make this world a safer place for everyone?

You're completely willing to dismiss all the corruption that Bush is responsible for. No flame. Just disgust.

they even have the most governorships. We need the executive branch, or we wil never, never recover. The supreme court WILL be stacked, and that will dictate policy for the next 20 years.

21. I still don't see why
Kerry has said many times he only plans to raise taxes on the rich- the ones who can afford it, and lower taxes on the middle and lower classes. Hopefully, this won't be seen as raising taxes, but you're almost right, I wouldn't count on it.
What state do you live in? If you live somewhere like Texas, Wyoming or Massachusetts, go ahead. but if you live in a swing state, we really need your vote. besides, none of us can be sure there'll be a Democratic Party or even a United states by the time Dubya finishes his second term.

23. What it will take to fix the mess Bush created is not complicated. You ...
...stop shifting all the benefits of society to the top and all the burdens to the bottom, and you do it everywhere.

What it will take to fix it is political will. Kerry has that.

If we don't fix it, fascism will be too firmly entrenched and America may NEVER recover. We'll be destroyed economically.

We will have ruined opportunities for millions of people who could have made wonderful contributions to society. The opportunity cost will be tremendous.

And if you think Kerry will be a one-termer because of the time bombs Repubicans will leave, there are two things to remember:

1) He has a fantastic number 2 who could be another FDR,
2) Just in terms of logic, you can't reward Republicans for leaving time bombs. If you do, then you guarantee that America's future will be the Republicans reducing opportunity, holding society down to a low level, because they get rewarded for doing so. You have to act as a voter in way that rewards GOOD and not EVIL.

28. Uh huh. What "team" would that be?
Let me see if I can follow your (il)logic: A Kerry presidency would have a difficult time due to the huge mess being left by the bush* maladminstration. Therefore, you want to give bush* four more years to create an even BIGGER mess, whereupon the 2008 Dem candidate will somehow be miraculously able to succeed in cleaning up 8 years of malfeasance more easily than Kerry will be able to clean up 4.

Riiiiiight... That's some pretty stinky bullshit you're peddling.

your arguments remind me a lot of the fundie armageddonisits; they support Israel because they know they don't get their date with jesus until the world comes to a flaming end, so they pal up with neo-con morons....

supreme court and judiciary...
four more years of environmental degradation...

and suppose, just suppose, the dems take presidency and one of the houses of congress... or both.

maybe, pal, enough people are sick of the way things are. maybe we've reached the very end of this sad, selfish period of time when the true conservatives and moderates have no home in the republican party, when corporate interests and the most intolerant elements of american culture have.

why not throw away your vote on kerry, then. if you're right, it won't matter anyway, because by your logic, in the long term, americans will seem the wisdom of screwing the country and crapping on the constitution for four more years anyway.

sheesh. make a whole argument supporting your theory, anyway. what you've presented certainly lacks the power to persuade.

"it's gonna suck, so i might as well go with the flow."

49. I gotta tell you, I agree with you. Bush has ruined this country for a
long time to come. The world is much worse off because most of the people hate their leaders for joinging Bush's illegal war. Divisions have developed in most western nations and good part of Asia and Africa because of the war on terra. The US can only print more money to save itsself from being bankrupted by the war machine and the wealth flowing out of the country. Illeteracy must be on the rise in the US..how else can you explain why our children are so stupid? Americans are too arrogant to learn to speak another language and soon Americans will be foreigners in their own land. I say let the Repbulicans finish us off so we can finally get rid of them once and for all time. I see a viable third party rising from the ashes after this second Bush term.

Flame away if you must but convince me why my perceptions are wrong.
