Idea-for people in states where you must register by party
like Florida/military where there is a possibility that the Democratic votes won't be counted.
Can you register as Republican for the election?
just wondering

1. As far as I know
general election votes aren't separated by the party affiliation of the voter. At least here in California, when I was a poll worker, all the ballots went into the same box. We had no way to know the affiliation of the voter after the vote was cast.

In primary elections, however, we used different colored ballots for the various parties.

2. I think you're right -- it's just for primaries.
At least in Ohio. They don't ask your party affiliation in a general election -- they do it in the primaries because there are different ballots, and a whole different raft of candidates.

Nobody asks your party affiliation when you vote in a general election. If they do, they're probably breaking the law -- I can't imagine there's any reason they'd need to know it then.

4. but if they know you are a democrat maybe they'll toss your ballot?
it's a thought. I think Dan Savage did something like that a few years ago-had people run as repukes in Seattle.

6. Not in my precinct, though I can't vouch for all of Ohio.
Here, they hold the pouch up and let me put my ballot in it, along with all the others -- the poll workers don't even touch my ballot unless I don't get it into the pouch far enough, and then they only shake the bag. I think we've got a pretty good split here in my precinct between D and R poll workers, though. They're all older folks who've seen many an election come and go, and I don't think the Dems would let the Republicans (or vice versa, for that matter) get by with any cheating either way.

Again, that's just me, just Ohio and just my precinct -- I can't vouch for anywhere else.

3. Palast says that the Palm Beach Co absentee ballots indicated party of
voter-

the voter had to sign outside of envelope so they could see if it came from a dem or a repuke.
Here in Michigan we don't register by party so we have to do voter IDing
too.

5. Just incase
I change registration status (a couple of years ago) and am now a republican (by label only),(just hedging my bet) I don't want to disappear in the middle of the night in case the worse happens, like Bush stealing another election. The Bush-Cheney group just sent me a flyer with an absentee ballot request on the bottom. I live in FL. in a post-butterfly ballot and now pre-touch screen area. Gee, you think if I ask them they will give me a ride to vote - as long as they don't look over my shoulder I'll get a ride home.
