CNN edits tape of Bush backers booing Clinton's health problems
They showed Bush speaking and mentioning the Clinton situation. At the completion of Bush's phrase, CNN cut the sound from the tape while continuing to show the video for a couple of seconds. This was shown at about 4:45pm EDT.

Kinda like what AP did an hour ago.

Disgusting.

they immediately cut away as you started to hear a chorus of boos

CNN is disgusting

Imagine if that were news of Reagan's death at a Kerry rally and that had happened?

7. I have no doubt they have edited the tapes to take the booing out...
it would be "unseemly" for the public to see what the bush supporters are REALLY like.

Drudge and others are already running with it (he has audio up) and trying to make it seem like some sort of anti-Bush media bias.

22. Same here
I saw the live feed on CNN and did not hear any booing. In fact, it sounded like polite applause. If there was any booing, it was drowned out by that applause.

Unless he gave the speech at two different venues to two different reactions or CNN editted the original live feed, I don't think that the reaction was truly as negative as originally reported by AP.

and I didn't hear any boos. I cannot say that there weren't boos but on that network's sound board, I didn't notice boos. Just what I noticed.

20. OH goody.. another new person attacked here...
.. perhaps this new person, as others on DU, did NOT hear the boos. Is there some sort of contest to see how soon you can savage a new poster on DU? Is that why there are so few people with posts under 1000. Chill.. let the mods figure out if someone is disrupting.

19. it;s called a SOT in our biz
meaning sound on tape.

all sots we use are cut at an end point, when the sound is faded.

trust me, it wasn't a conspiracy.

Audience boos as Bush offers best wishes for Clinton's recovery
By Associated Press, 9/3/2004 13:57

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) President Bush on Friday wished Bill Clinton ''best wishes for a swift and speedy recovery.''

''He's is in our thoughts and prayers,'' Bush said at a campaign rally.

Bush's audience of thousands in West Allis, Wis., booed. Bush did nothing to stop them.

Bush offered his wishes while campaigning one day after accepting the presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in New York. Clinton was hospitalized in New York after complaining of mild chest pain and shortness of breath.

25. i'm not saying they DIDN'T boo
i'm just saying cnn wouldn't specifically drown out sound of that to protect his supporters... the news biz works in SOTS, and it's common practice, to look for natural outs on bites, to lower sound. in other words, bush said what he said, and THEN they might have booed. well the purpose of the story was to get bush's comment on it, NOT the booing. so when bush was finished talking, it's cut.
