The only way out of this economic crisis is if Congress increases the tax burden of the upper 5%...
to its pre-Reagan levels. Households in that economic bracket used to pay upwards of 50% of their gross income in taxes, and for good reason. For the nation to survive economically, at times, capital must be transferred from the private to the public sphere.

But does this make good politics? Not yet... but I have a feeling that it eventually will.

1. You think that of all the things we could do increasing taxes on the top 5% is the best plan?
That would restore confidence in our financial system?

I kinda think you are crazy.

2. Nope
We will have to cut spending. I'm a democrat that does not make millions a year (damnit!) but I don't believe in a redistribution of wealth.

Everyone should have to have a burden in the taxes....our neighbors make 110,000 a year, have 6 kids and get every dollar back that they paid in at the end of the year. Why is that? If we have to pay and not get money back, so should they.

Sorry...unpopular here, I know.

5. This family can't. We are subject to the AMT...and we pay in extra ..
on top of the taxes we have already paid at the end of the year.

But seriously...we chose to have 5 children...it was our choice...why should we therefor contribute LESS to society? We shouldn't...but then our neighbor shouldn't either.

4. It would involve a lot more than just that.
I'm not saying that the wealthy should bear all the burden, I'd just like to see them pay their fair share (which they DON'T do now). But then the lobbyists & special interests would have to be eliminated, pork barrel spending would have to be reared in, loopholes would have to be closed.....and that's only shit that I can think of. I'm sure there's a lot more dirty politics being played that none of us, have any idea about.

Your train of thought is justified, but it's going to take a long, long time for things to be fair and square. IF it even gets to that point.

6. I agree
You can't fight a war let alone 2 and not tax the wealthy. This nation has never done that before. It's a no brainer.
