GOP 2008 - The Horror, The Horror
Santorum makes splash as contender. Some are saying he could have shot at White House in '08.

''This is a very real possibility,'' said U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie. ''There are only a few candidates around who could fire up the base, and Rick Santorum is one of them.''

4. I would LOVE it if Santorum ran against Kerry in 2008
I hope the Republican Party continues to show its true ugly head by putting people like this up on the highest pedestal to represent their party.

They should never win an election again EVER. I'm serious I've gotten to the point where I've had enough of this bullshit let's put up a moderate face by showing Rudy and Arnie as if they represent the true core of the Repuke party, no people like Cheney, Bush, Santorum and the rest do, and as far I'm concerned I welcome any and all efforts of them to push this country to the far right because this nation is NOT a far right nation and will NEVER elect a Republican for president ever again should they continue down this path.

5. I had heard that Santorum may run in '08...
...along with Frist, Hagel and Jeb. Out of the whole damn party they couldn't find one person who doesn't make me puke? Wait a minute. hmmmmm. I can't think of one person in the whole damn party that doesn't make me puke so I guess the answer is no, they can't find one person in the whole damn party that doesn't make me puke. By the way, damn and puke are fun words to type when you are writing about repubs.

7. OK, 2008 - say, 6,000 US dead in Iraq, 12,000 dead in Iran
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 04:49 PM by hatrack
a $7 trillion National Debt Grown to $13 trillion, four more years of offshoring, factory closings, permatemping, with health insurance 50% more expensive than it is already, expanded mercury warnings for fish, Chief Justice Antonin Scalia, Fed Funds rate at 7.5%, record deficits, record trade deficits, 60 million Americans w/o health insurance (as opposed to 45 million today), mandatory mental health screenings and mandatory SSRIs along with $4 gasoline (to name but a few of the more obviously appalling possibilities), we'll be ready to vote for Senator Man-on-dog because of the clarity of his "moral vision".

Yeah, right.

8. I do wish to remind everyone that Santorum does have...
... some baggage.

First, he's crazy as a loon.

Second, he seemingly can't keep his mouth shut, and when he opens it, the crazy stuff starts to leak out.

Third, he's not very bright. He was, after all, the #1 dimmest bulb in Congress in 1998:

The boy blunder of American politics and a one-time lobbyist for the World Wrestling Federation, thirty-nine-year-old Santorum repeatedly humiliates himself in public. "Santorum?" Senator Bob Kerrey once commented. "Is that Latin for asshole?"

Members of Santorum's own party make equally uncharitable observations. " critical of everything, indifferent to nuance, and incapable of compromise," Teresa Heinz, widow of the late GOP Senator John Heinz, has said of him.

Due to his frequent gaffes, Santorum's handlers carefully stage-manage his actions and rarely allow him to be interviewed without his press secretary, who helps the boss field any tough questions. In a 1995 profile, Philadelphia magazine said that "much of Santorum's record has been a series of tantrums," and quoted a former Republican Congressional staffer as saying, "If you took the key out of his back, I'm not sure his lips would keep moving."

One example: In speaking about the country's long-term prospects, Santorum remarked, "Nowhere in the Bible does it say that America will be here 100 years from now."

Cheers.
