Hartmann just said 7/11 has your choice of presidential cups for
your coffee. In 2000, Shrub cup sales beat Gore by 1%. In 2004, Shrub cup sales beat Kerry by 2%, and now, Obama cups are selling at 69% and McNuts at 31%! 7/11 tracks them by state and even in Tx Obama is beating McNuts 60% to 40%!

I realize this is certainly not scientific, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to flaunt a cup bearing the name of the candidate they hated!

13. We were young and poor then. We couldn't afford cups.
We drank right out of the coffee pot.

3. There is a certain irony in thinking that of all the polls...7/11 would be the best..

12. Maybe so, but 7/11 doesn't do any weighting, or picking who to
call. They just count cups! Somebody even said to Thom that maybe a handfull of people were buying a bunch of cups, and Thom said the cup has to contain coffee, and that they are not sold any other way.

I just thought it was interesting that there's no pressure on 7/11 customers, and no reason for them to "lie" as they are accused of doing to pollsters. I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks!

Obama has "change" and we had "so bad they're good" while McCain has "You kids get off my lawn."

MSNBC just had a segment on 7-11 and their poll of sales by cup color - Blue/Obama and Red/McCain.

With over 6 million cups counted Obama leads overwhelmingly - 57-43 - overall and leads in all but 2 states where there are 7-11's.

This cup poll predicted both 2000 and 2004 accurately.

I smelll a landslide coming ...with a cup of 7/11 coffee....

20. My daughter works for Borders
She said they're selling decks of playing cards with McCain and Obama on them. I wonder if Borders is doing the sort of polling.

My baby girl says she has refilled the Obama card section, but hasn't touched the McCain... though she doesn't know if someone else may have.

Interesting.

I remember years ago magazines would do this too. Issue two different covers for the same monthly issue to see how many of each cover were sold.

22. I'm just wondering how much the results may be skewed by where
the 7/11s are located. I know they had a huge nationwide presence for years, but other chains have moved into the picture in some areas.

"Once ubiquitous, 7-Eleven stores are no longer found in some Midwestern and Southeastern states."

A positive note, though - "In states like Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin," (Obama-leaning states) "other convenience stores like SuperAmerica, QuikTrip, Kwik Trip, Casey's, and Speedway occupy the same market."

famous people quotes on their cups for me to misquote to my buds at work.

Wondering now if 7-11's got plain white cups for un-decided?
