If you've NEVER respected John McCain, and NEVER will: CHECK IN!
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 09:43 PM by Kerry2008
He's an asshole, plain and simple.

Didn't like him before he won the nomination, don't like him now.

But it seems some people on DU respect him. In fact, some fell for the bullshit he pulled today "defending" Obama against his OWN supporters that HIMSELF and his RUNNING MATE provoked and pushed them into racist, hateful fits over Barack Obama. They claimed he was "palling around" with terrorists, and suggested he was "dangerous" and "risky" while they darked his face in advertisements and tried to rally the RepubliKKKan base.

I didn't fall for it. And neither should you.

Check in if you've never respected John McCain. And if you don't respect him now for his stunt of "respect" for Obama that was just covering up his campaign's strategy of smear and fear backfiring on him.

And I voted for him in 2000, only because I thought he'd be better than Bush.I wouldn't have voted for him in the general election but I thought if it were the Repugs turn he'd be better. Maybe back then he would have been. Now? No fucking way. He started this hate war by picking Sarah. Hate in heels.

He's got nothing left. If he manages to win, he will be hated more than Bush by the way he did it, never mind that a good portion of the country won't believe it was an honest election.

With legacy at stake, he isup shit creek without a paddle.

12. I'm working for Sen. Obama to win the Presidency
Really, I don't hate McCain. I just don't want to see him in office.

I'm starting to get turned off by the namecalling. I honestly believe the Bush guys and Palin were responsible for the hate stuff, and McCain probably isn't sharp enough to resist the pressure.

What's the point of disliking or liking him? I'll settle with winning the presidency. B-)

19. I have never liked McCain.......
...and the reason is very simple. You can't trust anything he says from one day to the next! You just can't count on him to keep his word and that's important to me!

Remember when Bush tried to push through his torture bill in '05? McCain was against it and insisted that he would not support a torture bill. Then he and Warner and someone else crafted a new bill and when they were finished......yep! It included torture!! So he made a big deal about how he was against something that he ultimately created!!

And his campaign is no different......you just can't rely on anything he says!

And about the way he defended Obama today. He didn't do that for Obama, he did that for himself. His rallies were beginning to promote a level of hate, the likes of which we haven't seen in this country since the 60s!!! If he had allowed that to continue, those people would have become the terrorists they claim they are against now!! Eventually, one of them would have done something very stupid and it would have escalated into something that would have been very, very bad for McCain.

20. Fuck no
His 'straight talk maverick' bullshit was always a phony marketing campaign. If you have to sell it that much, you ain't got it. He always a smarmy, unctious, anti-choice, sell-out admiral's spoiled son.

I don't even give a fuck about his POW status. So fucking what? There have been POW's as long as there have been wars. I had 3 g-grandfathers in the Civil War, and 2 of them spent time as POW's. McCain would have folded like a pair of cheap hooker's panties if he endured even 1/10th of what they did, that weak-ass shithole.

I piss on McCain and everything he has ever stood for, which is ultimately himself, whenyou cut through the bullshit.

I say we kick his political corpse around while he is down and defeated.

How could anyone be gullible enough to believe anything that comes out of his mouth now. He contradicts himself completely on a daily basis. His nasty lying ads are still running. Why would ANYONE give him a pass for his CYA moment today?

I just read some posts here that said he looks "very sick" and they were feeling sorry for him. I am not so inclined. I can't wait for his vile campaign to implode. As the head of his campaign, he MUST take ownership for Sister Sarah and her crazies.

45. i have not followed his career closely by any means
but i have never respected him because he sucked up to bush after the cruel things bush & co did to his family in the 2k campaign. i know that politicians in washington have an "understanding" about "campaigning" but there is no way in hell i could respect a man who publicly offers homage <that pic of mccain hugging bush- you know the one i mean> to someone that targeted his children. that is just sick.

i don't necessarily buy the "contrite mccain" either. i don't know what his motivation is, probably too little too late in any case. plus, we'll have to see what toads and slithering snakes drop from the lipsticked mouth of palin following this to make any determinations as to the validity of mccains apparent sighting of the light.

48. I read a (positive) bio of him years ago.
The impression I took away was that he is militaristic and jingoistic, but not very bright and completely non-self-aware. Add to that his obvious lack of ethics (which this bio glossed over and I didn't realize until his torture flip-flop and when I found about his dumping his first wife for Cindy). Not only is there nothing to respect, but I think he would be dangerous to my health and that of other people who might be negatively impacted by nuclear war with Russia. Which is to say all of us.

I wouldn't have voted for him, but I didn't think a McCain administration would be a nightmare, like I knew a Bush administration would be.

But, as soon as he ran into Bush's arms and pushing for the Iraq war, I realized that he had no integrity, he'd just been better at faking it than most politicians.

51. I lost all respect once he threw the Hamas bomb
after he got the nomination. When he said Obama was endorsed by Hamas. i know at that point that the "straight talking" man who used to go on TDS and speak his mind with Jon Stewart was dead and replaced by something else. I would say I used to respect him before the GOP primaries because of his stances on stem cell and torture.

That McCain is dead. This McCain as completely undone all the virtues the old McCain once had. This McCain has run the sleaziest; most dangerous campaign in my lifetime and I truly fear for the future of our planet should this reckless fraud take office. Thank goodness we are gonna make sure that Obama wins.

His latest stunt is a tactic done either to appease other high-level elected Repubs who didn't appreciate what he was doing, enough to take back their endorsements and fear for their seats, or he's trying to show he's "honorable" again (LOL!) while still running smear ads and having Princess Bitchface do all the nasty stuff.

72. Can I join if I once respected him based on misinformation?
I respected him once based on what I believed to be true about him, which WASN'T true. So do I count?

Had I know what he was really about, I would never have had a SHRED of respect for the guy.

77. Phony
as a three dollar bill. I respect few politicians; he's never been one of them. When liberal friends would praise him from time to time, and repeat that 'he's a maverick' nonsense, I'd tell them that they, and he, were full of shit. Guess what?

78. Never liked him. Saw him as an idiot back in 2000. Even though I agreed
with what he was saying about the religious right, I saw it as a bone-headed campaign move and the final nail in his coffin.

79. K&R, checking in
never liked him
loathe him now

A decent, good and honorable man would NEVER run the campaign he's running;truth is McCain is a greedy, nasty, self-serving bastard to the core. Always has been, always will be.

81. I first heard of him
When he was opposing the holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.. My first impression was that he was a huge racsit. So no, I've never had a shred of respect for him. Once I read what he did as a POW I came to destest him.

83. I admit, I did like him a bit in 2000, but..
He completely lost my respect with "the hug". It was clear that someone (Rove) did some talking to him after all of the talk about him possibly becoming Kerry's running mate, and promised him support in '08 if he toed the party line. He should have accepted Kerry's offer.

84. I have never been a JOHN MCCAIN FAN
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 08:10 AM by livedemocarticordie
.. but then again I have been around a while. I lost complete and utter respect for him when:

1. He allowed George Bush and Co to rip his daughter apart and then came back to sniff and kiss the crack of Bush's ass. John SIDNEY McCain is driven by ambition and he would give over his soul and his mother to be president.

2. When he selected Palin rather than Romney. It revealed his stupidity and tendency to be manipulated by others.

3. When he cheated oh his wife.

4. When he claimed he did not know that his wife was a drug addict.

5. When he voted against the Martin Luther King Holiday.

6. When he graduated at the bottom of his class at the Academy but feels enough sense of entitlement to go after anything and everyone while deriding his opponents.

7. When he did not have the guts to say to OBAMA's face the crap he's been spewing through the past month.

And unlike some, I don't see one wimpy scared retreat (driven by internal polls) comment about Barack being a decent man as huge attrition for his insidious dangerous mouthing off of the last two weeks. I guess I am just not all that forgiving a person. I think when you seek to bubble up vitriolic racism and evil, you are a dangerous, self-centered (country last not first) person.

Besides he looks like an evil little angry gnome.
