Attention: Do NOT Drink the KoolAid!
What is the deal with everyone freaking out about Kerry? It's a close election, the polls are up and down, but in general things are actually looking pretty good. Is it a slam dunk for November? Probably not, but there's nothing going on right now worth the doom and gloom I'm seeing here.

If you find yourself hyperventilating while watching Fox news pump propaganda into your living room, maybe you should stop watching for a while...just a suggestion.

1. Well said & I agree.
Watching Faux News & reading ignorant opinions on freeper message boards is self-destructive. I don't care what they think. It's depressing enough just keeping an eye on Dubya&Co.

Concentrate on how lucky we are to have John Kerry running against the idiot. Kerry will prevail by a large margin in November.

11. KoolAid is used as a reference to the Jim Jones commune
who drank KoolAid laced with cyanide because they were instructed to by their leader, Jim Jones. It's a reference to those non-thinking people who are easily influenced & easily led.

that because 911 happened Bush must be re-selected even though he's been a total failure and nothing can change their mind.

But let's do make sure the RNC "de-brands" Bush and pushes "My Pet Goat," and "AWOL and Liar on Sept. 11."

17. Oh yeah!
There's a lot of work to be done. Personally, I think the GOTV (get out the vote) effort is the most important thing, but stripping Emperor Bunnypants of his 'new clothes' is also very important. :)

9. I agree.
I haven't gotten worried about this at all. Stay focused and stay on message. The polls are always half bullshit and most people here aren't considering a bounce. I think Kerry has something to deal with. The SBVT stuff stung but most people also believe that they're lying. People are looking for a reason to not vote for Bushler. Kerry has to present them.

worried about Kerry and his strategy and the polls does not mean they have drank the KoolAid.....they are simply Kerry supporters who are concerned....

19. There's a difference between concerned and running
screaming into the hills shouting "WE'RE DOOMED" as some posters have been doing. Trust me, I'm concerned, but blind panic is not helpful.

14. For the most part that's what I've been doing,
but right now I have Hardball on. MSNBC seems to be a little more fair than CNN. In recent months CNN has been disgusting in their fawning over Bush.

Chris Matthews was just talking about the Times poll and the area that Kerry is UP by two points on is the one where people were asked who cares the most about the welfare of everyday Americans.

I almost never watch Fox News and I've put CNN in the same category because they have no credibility anymore because they are so blatantly pro-Bush.

I have faith that Kerry will do better in the polls because the Republicans have scared the American people to death by their "vote for us or you will die" propaganda.

Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 06:56 PM by Andromeda
and he's saying that you can't predict how Bush is really doing because the Times poll is just one poll and Kerry has time to catch up.

Surprising because John Fund is a Repug and no friend of Kerry's.

Just as we did with Kerry after the DNC, think Republican speakers are hitting the airwaves trying to lower the expectations for a post convention bounce?

Always under-promise and over-deliver. Probably not bad advice for Bush right now. Kerry too, for that matter.

21. I'm a long ways from drinking the KoolAid
Maybe it's just me, but I expected to see some kind of reported jump after the GOP convention. In part, that is how it works... You have your party convention and people feel upbeat.

When I stop to consider the fact that a lot of the media whores for dubya anyway--I just figured it was a forgone conclusion that SOMEBODY was gonna have a poll to demonstrate that he's in the lead today.

Will he STILL be in the lead tomorrow? Maybe so. Will he still be leading up to election day? Could be. IS that ANY indicator that he's gonna win? NOT AT ALL!!!!

That polling data is worth about as much as yesterday's used toilet paper, and it is just about as useful. The best thing to look at is what do YOU see in yards and on bumper stickers and in the Letters to the Editors.

I'm seeing a lot of really unhappy people out there. I'm seeing a lot of people who are getting more poverty ridden and more panicked by the day. THAT spells goodbye for any seated President--no matter how the media blows him, no matter how many dirty tricks he pulls.

Buck up, kids! The evil empire is gonna fall in spite of the recent polls.

28. Love your black cat sig pic
And I agree about the polls, though I think they can be usefull if taken with a healthy dose of analysis. Not all polls are equal, or accurate (that little MOE thing)

I count bumperstickers too, but my 'survey' probably isn't a very representative sample since I live in SF. :D

32. That sig is in honor of my black cat, Chaucer.
He's 16 lbs and looks like a beached whale unless you catch him by surprise--THEN he looks like that sig! :)

Without a doubt, you do need to look at polls--but I've just seen too many times when the polls are wrong when the votes are counted.

I think a LOT of people are reluctant to say anything bad about shrub right now--especially to some anonymous pollster (or even to some computer generated thing) on the phone. In this climate, you really DON'T know who you are talking to!

I also think a lot of the voters turning out on this next election day will be the ones NOT on any body's radar currently--the first time voters and the folks who usually don't show up. Call it a hunch--call it a lack of science--but I just think that an awful lot of people will turn out just to vote against Bush.

If I'm being totally honest, I have to admit to a certain pathetic happiness at seeing polls like this right now. I think it just motivates the Dem base EVEN more!

Peace to you!

29. Hell Yeah...
People worry too much! I'm a Kerry supporter since before the primaries and I didn't lose hope back in December when Kerry "had no chance" to win the nomination.

This guy knows what he is doing and polls mean nothing!

The Time poll worries me less than the RNC since I think the focus was to send a message to Bush haters who are not sure about Kerry to stay home on November 2nd to make them think Kerry is not worth the gas.

We'll see... Only election day will tell! The positive part of the Time poll is the fact that it will worry the Kerry camp and make them fight hard. It's nice to have the pressure now than be 11 points behind the day before the election.

Also, be sure that people can't wait to fire Bush and the turnout is more of a factor then a poll that only includes people who voted in the last election.

Fuck Time! Zogby has been pretty reliable in the primaries and I believe Bush has only 2 points over Kerry during the RNC. :-)
