1. We have to respect that they can say it
NOT what they say.

5. I think Gene Wilder said it best in Blazing Saddles:
"You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West.

You know... morons. "

I've had all I can stands and I can't stands no more!

Also, where was their inclusive attitude when they were locking Democratic lawmakers out of committee meetings and blathering on about a "Permanent Republican Majority"?

EDIT: lol, "perminent"

7. It's bullshit on stilts
They have a Constitutional right to say it, but that doesn't mean it has to be respected or accorded any weight.

9. people earn respect
I respect free speech.
I respect a person's right to free speech.
I can respect a person who forms a well thought out position that differs from mine.
I do not respect a person that speaks with hatred and bigotry dripping from every word.

It doesn't sound any better coming from him.

Although their mindless, chidlike, fearful blatherings about matters that they only dimly understand can be a source of great amusement.

19. I respect thoughtful conservatives
And any thoughtful conservative sees this campaign of hate and fear-mongering for what it is. I probably don't agree with the likes of Charles Krauthammer on much of anything, but at least he has the intellectual capacity to note that Obama has a "first-class intellect and a first-class temperament."

I give stupid and bigoted a wide berth. And I don't think the Right Wing really ever argues anything...they just flap their meat to make sounds.

23. It is possible to take a stand against stupidity and bigotry without engaging un-necessary
side effects of the confrontation.

Calling things what they are is good, but adding un-necessary extraneous insults, through the use of obscenities or loaded language creating implications about other issues or traits or whatever, sets off anger that distracts from what is important about stupidity and bigotry, i.e. the inadequacy of an understanding or a behavior and the damage that attends prejudice.

24. I don't have to respect anyone who is undeserving of respect.
If they act in a disrespectful manner, I have no respect for them. Acting bigoted is disrespectful. End of story. So no, I DON'T have to respect bigots, absolutely not.
