'Dirtiest Campaign,' Really, Cindy?
you can't make this shit up

Despite Smears in 2000, Cindy McCain Calls Obama's the 'Dirtiest Campaign Ever'

John McCain's bid for the White House eight years ago was largely derailed by a whispering campaign during the South Carolina primary that claimed his wife was a drug addict and his adopted daughter was the result of an out-of-wedlock affair.

Since Cindy McCain and her daughter were targeted so viciously eight years ago, observers were taken aback earlier this week when she called Sen. Barack Obama's 2008 campaign "the dirtiest campaign in American history."

The 2000 South Carolina GOP primary has earned a reputation as one of the sleaziest in recent memory. Through anonymous phone calls and fliers, opponents spread the rumor among the state's conservative Republican primary voters that Cindy McCain was a drug addict and the couple's daughter Bridget, adopted from Mother Teresa's orphanage in Bangladesh, was fathered by McCain out of wedlock.

George W. Bush went on to win the South Carolina primary, which effectively ended McCain's campaign for the Republican nomination. At the time, McCain said, "It's very upsetting when something like that happens because it shakes your faith a little bit in people."

Given her role in being on the sharp end of one of the most notorious political smears in recent years, some wonder if she meant what she said this week about Obama's tactics or if she was simply caught up in the moment.

Cindy made the remark while addressing a group in Nashville, Tenn., as Obama's lead in the polls grew, threatening to defeat her husband's second bid for the White House.

The McCain campaign today said it stood by Cindy McCain's comments.

3. JMcC hides behind Cindy's & Sarah's skirts. How pathetic.
He has to send his wifey out to defend him. He is nothin' but a wuss.

Of course, Michelle could never be this crude. And they would crucify her if she did. I hate this double standard, but I'm glad Barack and Michelle possess so much class and grace, not to mention the moral high ground. The contrast could not be starker.

5. Cindy McCain has had to say some damn stupid things
and put up with unreasonable stuff this whole time her husband has been perpetrating to be president. Stuff no business woman should need to be putting up with.

She actually had to defend with a straight face, his choice of Sarah Palin (beauty queen) by pointing out that you can sort of kind of see Russia from part of Alaska. On a clear day. To pretend Palin has foreign policy experience. I bet she's smarter than that.

She's had to suffer reliving being called a word many women do not like to hear let alone be called, if he called her that, which I think he did. That must have been a shame.

She's had to put up with being ogled by bikers speculating how well she'd do if her husband did really put her up for Miss Cowchip or whatever that was.

She had to pretend she had a cold chill when Sen. Obama cast a vote against a flawed bill rearding troop-funding, as if she was not a grown, educated adult married to a US Senator who knew damn well that voting against a bill only means you don't like that version of a bill, and another one might be supported. Just like her hubby voted against other troop-funding bills.

You know, I feel for Cindy McCain, because I suspect she may be sharper than John. She has the money. Why does she put up with his nonsense? She's been a trooper. She's been hurt from all the hand-shaking, and I bet she still feels the sting of knowing her baby-girl Bridget was called her husband's black, illegitimate child back in 2000. I wonder how she feels knowing her husband has hired on those same scumbags to represent him this campaign.

If she ever looked here:

Cindy: Seriously, I mean this girlfriend, you do not need him. You can stay at my place if you don't want to stay at any of your other houses. If John comes by and wants to start shit, me and my husband will take care of him. We won't let him inside. We'll just call him a hack and make him have a shit-fit outside. You have the money in this relationship and you know his ass would be broke without you. You and I can talk about this and I wouldn't spill a thing to the media, but I worry about you. You look thin and brittle and sometimes I think the reality of all this negative campaigning could break you, or your family. It isn't healthy. I'll feed you some of my mother-in-law's risotto and remind you you are strong. You were the one who raised your family while he's been in the Senate and making long hours and going to Iraq for photo ops and stuff without you. He yanked you out of rehab when you were hurting--was that to protect himself and his reputation?

Cindy--I feel for you. He was a father figure and you put your little hand in his, but he is not as capable as you are. The dirtiest thing the Obama campaign has had to put up with is answering your husband's campaign sleaze. You are better than this negative campaigning and I know that you know better. And if your baby Meghan was anyone else's daughter, she could vote for Obama with a clear conscience. Being John's daughter, she can vote for her old man, but is that with a clear conscience?

Do you need a clear conscience, Cindy? Because I have listened and heard things before and I'll listen to you. And I'll remind you that you aren't stupid, only your husband's campaign is. And I'll try to bring back your faith in people. The Obama campaign has touched a lot of people, and you can meet some committed, caring, non-judgemental people in the Democratic Party.

It doesn't have to be this way.

7. Ah Cindy - go pop another pill and then take a nap.
She looked like crap today - did anyone see the clips of her on the campaign trail?
Well, in just 3 weeks she'll have plenty of time to catch up on her sleep.
