Question about VPs
maybe i got the wrong forum too, but if
1. McCain or Obama were to die before the election.
2. If whoever wins dies before inauguration

Does the VP pick assume the role of the candidate/president elect in both cases?

1. i don't think so, if I remember correctly from past posts regarding this,
although I don't remember what exactly happens. I think the party submits someone? Sorry I don't have the particulars, but maybe this kick will keep your question alive until somebody comes along who knows the answer. :hi:

4. 3 phases: 1- DNC or RNC meet to name a replacement before election
2. If the death occurs between the election and meeting of the electors, it's anybody's ball game. They can do whatever they like. It would be a real circus (particularly if McCain won, then kicked the bucket).

3. If the death occurs after the December meetings of the electoral college (and there would be 51 such meetings) and before the inauguration, the VP-elect would assume the presidency.

5. Before the election the party picks another candidate.
After the election, if the president-elect dies or is incapacitated, the vice-president-elect becomes president.

Looking for a link to the latter.
