Obama's 30-minute National Address: The New Fireside Chats
FDR used the radio powerfully when he was President doing his Fireside chats to rally the nation in times of economic uncertainty. This was a great weapon that President Roosevelt used to unite the nation and explain the New Deal. I think that Obvama is using this 30 minute address to the nation to reassure us that we are in this together and that together we will solve the current economic crisis. It will prove that as President, Barack Obama will be a setady hand and a calming influence over us to bring back peace and prosperity. It will be his closing argument to a nation that so desperately needs atrue leader after 8 years of a catastrophic Presidency by George W. Bush.

I wish him luck. He'll need it. He has to be entertaining and engaging. He can't just give a speech. Ross Perot's versions of this were a good example of what worked.
This campaign has been so clever in the way that they use the internet, and so smart in the way they craft their advertisements. This is probably going to be a full-blown television special, sending home the campaign's message in a clear and convincing way.
