Got it from my stepmom, who is still on the fence. Any help/links in debunking it would be appreciated. I would still like to win my stepmother over.

"About a year ago, I would have voted for Obama. I have changed my mind three times since then. I watch all the news channels, jumping from one to another. I must say this drives my husband crazy. But, I feel if you view MSNBC, CNN, and FOX News, you might get some middle ground to work with.

About six months ago, I started thinking, 'Where did the money come from for Obama?' I have four daughters who went to college, and we were middle class, and money was tight.

We (including my girls) worked hard and there were lots of student loans. I started looking into Obama's life. Around 1979, Obama started college at Occidental in California. He is very open about his two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of drugs and was wasting his time, but even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to his studies. 'Barry' (that was the name he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo, and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan .

During the summer of 1981, after his second year in college, he made a 'round the world' trip. Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia, next Hyderabad in India, three weeks in Karachi, Pakistan where he stayed with his roommate's family. My question - Where did he get the money for this trip? Neither I, nor any one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when they were in college.

To verify these acquaintances, click here. http://en.metapedia.org/wiki/List_of_Barack_Obama%27s_friends_and_roommates

When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York. It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barak - not Barry. Do you know what the tuition is at Columbia? It's not cheap to say the least. Where did he get money for tuition? Student loans maybe? After Columbia , he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000 a year.

Why Chicago? Why not New York? He was already living in New York. By 'chance' he met Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria, and a real estate developer in Chicago. Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery this year.

To verify Obama’s ties to Rezko, click the two links below.

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/02/01/rezko/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Rezko

Rezko was named 'Entrepreneur of the Decade' by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association.

About two hears later, Obama entered Harvard Law School. Do you have any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School? Where did he get the money for Law School? More student loans?

After law school, he went back to Chicago. Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Guess what? They represented 'Rezar' which was Rezko's firm.

Rezko was one of Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago. In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with 'seed money' for his U.S. Senate race. In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwood District of Chicago for $1.65 million (less than the asking price. With ALL those Student Loans, where did he get the money for the property? On the same day, Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price.
Click here to learn about the ties with Rezko and Obama’s house. Obama says everything is on the up and up and it may or may not be.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-03-10-rezko-qa_N.htm

The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born billionaire, loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama's new home was purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko. Now that we have Obama running for President.

Valerie Jarrett was Michele Obama's boss. She is now Obama's chief advisor and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarre tt born? Ready for this? Shiraz, Iran! Do we see a pattern here? Or am I going crazy?

To verify this acquaintance, click here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerie_Jarrett

On May 10, 2008, the Times reported, Robert Malley, advisor to Obama was 'sacked after the press found out he was having regular contacts with 'Hamas,' which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran.

To verify this acquaintance, click here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Malley

This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq, he asked their leaders to do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will 'take care of things.'

Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that were born in Pakistan? They are in charge of all these 'small' Internet campaign contributions for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East?

Check out this link about Middle East contributions to his campaign. http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/08/obamas_donor_contributions_sil.html

And the final bit of news. On September 7, 2008, the Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was made on "This Week' with George Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his religion said, 'My Muslim faith...' When questioned, 'he made a mistake.' Some mistake!

This comment by Obama about his Muslim faith may have been a mistake, but can be seen at this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BobGQTMhxf8

All of the above information I got on line. If you would like to check it - Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barak Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie Jarrett; Daily Times - Obama visited Pakistan in 1981; The Washington Times - September 7, 2008; The Times, May 10, 2008. Or Google it!

Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own, why haven't all of our 'intelligent' members of the press been reporting this? A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear - 'Beware of the enemy from within.'!"

Open your arms to change but don't let go of your values!

I'm a little hazy this morning, and forgot the mantra: "Snopes is your friend."

Ugh I just read about Metapedia, though....what a disgusting website: http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?aid=863

4. Ah hahahhaa. Another debunked, tired, right wing fairy tale makes the rounds.
Right wingers really need to pull their heads out of their asses... As the previous post says, Snopes. Snopes is your friend! :-)

Good luck!

5. Except.....
The right wing and their PUMA friends are now claiming that Snopes and Factcheck are "shilling for Obama" and are calling out for an "unbiased site" (read, someone who believes the same as they do) to counteract the "Obama bias"

(rolls eyes)

8. here is my response....
Hi Carol!

This email was fun to research, thanks for keeping me on my toes!

The original email regarding where Obama's money is coming from has been debunked by Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/money.asp

The Rezko "issue" has been thoroughly vetted: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/does_obama_have_a_real_estate_problem.html

It seems that the email you received has added on some other "late breaking news."

- Regarding Malley: Read the whole article: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article3897414.ece. I don't think Obama made a bad choice in severing ties with Malley. Furthermore: "Mr Obama, who repeated earlier statements saying that Hamas was “a terrorist organisation we should not negotiate with them unless they recognise Israel, renounce violence”. This is a backhanded way to try and resurrect the debate on whether Obama is in cahoots with Muslim terrorists.

- Regarding Valerie Jarret: She was born in Iran to two American citizens who were doing very valuable work in the country at the time (http://www.thehistorymakers.com/biography/biography.asp?bioindex=200&category=MedicalMakers). How does this have any bearing on the Obamas? What the emailer is trying to suggest here, that Obama is cuddly with Ahmedinejhad?! I just don't see where they're trying to go with this one.

- Regarding the NY Post's article about Obama's attempt to delay troop withdrawals: This has been debunked by bipartisan attendees at the meeting. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/undermining-mcc.html. Quote: "Lending significant credence to Obama's response is the fact that -- though it's absent from the Post story and other retellings -- in addition to Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, this July meeting was also attended by Bush administration officials, such as U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and the Baghdad embassy's legislative affairs advisor Rich Haughton, as well as a Republican senator, Chuck Hagel of Nebraska.

Attendees of the meeting back Obama's account, including not just Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., but Hagel, and Senate Foreign Relations Committee staffers from both parties. Officials of the Bush administration who were briefed on the meeting by the U.S. embassy in Baghdad also support Obama's account and dispute the Post story and McCain attack.

The Post story is 'absolutely not true,' Hagel spokesman Mike Buttry told ABC News."

- Regarding Obama's slip on saying Muslim faith....do we really want to get into slips of the tongue? Does that really have any bearing on the issues? This slip of the tongue is nothing in comparison to the fact that only up until yesterday McCain and Palin were not denouncing supporters who want to harm Obama: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVFWahLTdUo&feature=related
even dyed in the wool republicans are calling McCain out on this:
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/oped/bal-op.mccain10oct10,0,7557571.story
I feel sorry for McCain and Palin on this front...their backtracking and calls for "respect" are too little, too late.

On a side note, I don't know if the person who sent this to you knows this or not, but Metapedia is an anti-semitic, aryan website (http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?aid=863), and American Thinker is a right-wing echo chamber (http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=American_Thinker). The emailer may want to reconsider using these websites to verify facts and try to influence others.

Snopes and FactCheck.org are your *best* friends for checking emails like this. Here's stuff Snopes has on Obama: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/obama.asp#money
FactCheck.org is very, very good at trying to stick to the facts, regardless of the candidate. And if your friends say FactCheck and Snopes are shilling for Obama, they should actually check out the websites sometime. They ding Obama just as much as McCain for stretching the truth in campaign speeches/ads.

Pass it along!

Love, Lisa

9. suggest she read the RS profile of McCain if she's feeling inqusitive...
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_real_john_mccain

Perhaps point out to her how McCain evidently used MILITARY planes for personal party travel back when he was a Navy "pilot" among other charming qualities of the "maverick."

18. Yup
That's what I do whenever something like this is sent to me. After being embarrassed a couple times by my reply-all's, they stop sending me garbage. They either figure out that what they are doing is rude, or they cut me out of their social circle, and either option works for me.

19. My friend in ATL got it from her SIL
She asked me to write her a reply, and she Replied All it. Her SIL wrote her back saying something to the effect of "While I certainly welcome political discussions, I would appreciate if you only reply to me." or some junk like that.

My friend told her SIL that she if she's going to blast away these lies to her entire address book, she shouldn't moan about it when someone has the nerve to correct the record. Some people just can't handle facts, and now they've got a good southern feud going on.
