Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 01:24 PM by IWantAnyDem
but MSNBC is calling it a battleground state because McCain just opened up some offices and held a rally there?

Yeah, MSNBC isn't in the tank for McCain. You betcha.

You noticed that, too? I started a thread about this earlier today.
But the guy from Iowa that Shuster just spoke to said Obama has a BIG lead and a superior GOTV effort there. Sorry, MSNBC.

7. It's a head fake
He's trying to fake out Obama.

In the end, he's throwing money down the toilet in a desperate attempt to try and divert Obama's attention.

5. Let them carry-on the charade.
If McCain wants to waste time and money there, so be it. It'll be listed as Reason #3254 in the Reasons Why McCain Lost book released after Obama's inauguration.

6. I didnt see MSNBC saying it was a battleground, they reported the mccain camp says it is.
What type of machines does Iowa vote on, is it ones they can hack? Sounds like repubs think they can steal that state.

11. Shuster called it a battleground state. The guy in the hour before him said
they're going to call it as "leans Obama" instead of solidly Obama with NO proof of any changes other than McCain setting up more offices there.

8. no, MSNBC isn't in the tank for McCain...
But they do like horserace politics. A landslide election that's clearly decided before any polling places even open just isn't any fun, so they need to find excitement/conflict wherever they can. And with McCain completely abandoning Michigan, they've got to call something a battleground state so they can spend 18 hours a day focused on just that state.

9. McCain has been sent to Iowa because Chuck Grassley isn't running this year!
The amount of damage McCain can do to down ticket races is limited.

12. Out of options
Usually about this time they try to pretend they have a shot at New Jersey. But they've got no shot, so they're just trying Iowa on for size this year. It's all head games. They lose every time, but they keep trying!

Next he'll be opening some offices in California.
