McClan Campaign Forced To Repudiate One of It's Own Speakers (Again) - Religious Bigot Pastor
A Religious War In Davenport?

11 Oct 2008 04:46 pm
Here's the full transcript and audio from pastor Arnold Conrad's invocation before Sen. McCain's speech in Davenport this morning. This pastor sees the election as a religious war. Either that, or Bill Maher paid him to promote Religulous.

MP3 AUDIO -- http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/McCain%20Pre%20Program.mp3

I also would also pray, Lord, that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their god--whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah--that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they're going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you will step forward and honor your own name with all that happens between now and election day."

Update: Just got this response from a McCain aide:

"While we understand the important role that faith plays in informing the votes of Iowans, questions about the religious background of the candidates only serve to distract from the real questions in this race about Barack Obama's judgment, policies and readiness to lead as commander in chief." - Wendy Riemann, Midwest Regional Communications Director

6. There are few religious traditions I would speak about in this way...
but they had to know what they were going to get when they asked an Evangelical Free minister to pray publicly. Those fuckers are downright evil. There's not a more self-righteous bunch of bastards on the planet. This man's prayer is doctrinaire Evangelical Free dogma right down the line. No sane person would've been surprised by this.

The people running the McCain campaign need to decide what damn message they want conveyed at their rallies...either it's hate or it's something else. Asking an E Free whackjob to pray leans things toward hate. If that wasn't what they wanted, there are 2 UCCs, a UUA, and a Reform synagogue in Davenport. Any of those clergy could've prayed without badmouthing other faiths.

8. Headline: "Christian" pastor believes in multi-theism?
If Christianity is the one true faith, then aren't these others praying to Hindu, Buddha, Allah, etc. just wasting their time? Not according to this guy... those other gods evidently are real, real enough to be scared of. Then hasn't pretty much everything HE (professes to) believe just been tossed out the window?

12. Wow, excellent point! Didn't think of that before my post, but you're
right--this does make it sound like other gods could be bigger'n the Rev's, who I always understood to be the one and only, and omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent to boot. This guy's a wacko. I'm feeling better all the time about my decision to step away from the "Christian faith" and its multitude of non-Christian-acting adherents. As I heard once a long time ago, if there is a God he must have a sense of humor!

10. Geez I hate these so-called "pastors"!
Up until recently, I acknowledged and prayed to the same God Arnold Conrad did, but it's people like him that pretty much did in my system of belief. (That and a book called "God's Problem" by Bart Ehrman.) I have to wonder, though, if I in my former state of grace implored God to let Obama win the election, would that mean my God was not bigger'n Rev. Conrad's? I'm thinking my prayers would be to no avail anyway, because I can't tell you how many times through the last 8 years I begged God to do something about George W. Bush. Finally concluded, better not to believe in a God than to believe in one what would let that evil, low-life miserable excuse for a human being "lead" our country into the abyss declaring all the while that God told him to do it.

I guess I should be glad McCain's aide responded as she did on his behalf, but I'm also guessing it's a bit late. He surely is steppin' in it these days!

This is great.
We'll finally get to see a real face off.
Whose god is MOST omnipotent?
I await the results with bated breath.

15. Odd how the McCain statements that are meant to "divert" from whatever
controversy is at hand are always worded so they're an attack on Obama, instead of something like "serve only to distract from the message of (fill in with positive message) that John McCain offers..." They are truly a hollow shell of a campaign, they have nothing--NOTHING--positive to offer the American people, besides We Hate Obama, And So Should You.

Imagines his god is the two-incher in a cosmic dick-measuring contest or something. I'll never understand why some people need to make religion a competitive sport.

18. Who's "Hindu"?
I've heard of Hinduism, of course, but I always though Krishna and Kali were among the big cheeses in that particular faith.

Seriously, asking how dumb these wingnuts are is like asking where is the edge of the universe? The only answer is "infinity"
