HELP...my Mom just called worried sick
I haven't seen any news today, too busy. She said she saw on cable news that Obama has been linked to ACORN...said something about money and this and that. What is the very latest? What can I tell her to calm her down?

7. so what
ACORN is not going to be found guilty of anything. They will be found to have flagged the suspect applications the way they're supposed to, once this "investigation" is over.

Your mom should be worried sick that federal agencies are being used to smear a Presidential campaign. That's what they do in dictatorships.

10. Agree
ACORN is not a bad organization. I've read that they themselves separate "bad" voting registrations and turn them over to the department of elections. They are making a big deal out of nothing to bring Obama down.

Keep your eyes on the prize and stay focus. This is ANOTHER repub shenigans to divert americans to petty issues...

12. Here are the Obama-ACORN links...
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 06:38 PM by Celebrandil
If I understand it correctly DNC has supported ACORN, but not Obama himself or his campaign. Obama has been working with voter registration. However, that was not within ACORN, but in another organization. Obama has previously been hired by ACORN as an attorney, but that doesn't make him a representative of ACORN.

Then there is the question about what has really happened? Fox keeps talking about voter fraud, but that is very much an exaggeration. Possible "voter registration fraud", is more correct. Finally, in most cases it's ACORN themselves who have reported the irregularities.

13. Fight the Smears: Barack Obama Never Organized with ACORN.
Barack Obama Never Organized with ACORN
http://fightthesmears.com/articles/20/acornrumor

Discredited Republican voter-suppression guru Ken Blackwell is attacking Barack Obama with naked lies about his supposed connection to ACORN.

• Fact: Barack was never an ACORN community organizer.
• Fact: ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer, or any type of employee.
• Fact: ACORN was not part of Project Vote, the successful voter registration drive Barack ran in 1992.

In his capacity as an attorney, Barack represented ACORN in a successful lawsuit alongside the U.S. Department of Justice against the state of Illinois to force state compliance with a federal voting access law. For his work helping enforce the law, called “Motor Voter,” Barack received the IVI-IPO Legal Eagle Award in 1995. (For more about Barack’s career, check out our Obama bio.)

Ken Blackwell is best known today for disenfranchising Democratic voters in his dual role as Ohio Secretary of State and chair of George Bush’s Ohio campaign in 2004. To see him shed crocodile tears for the integrity of the vote while making accusations about Barack and ACORN with absolutely no basis in fact is disturbing.

Blackwell’s attacks against ACORN and community organizers continue a vile Republican pattern of mockery and viciousness against this noble profession. Community organizers are the very individuals Republicans should be celebrating for helping people to help themselves rather than depending on the government.

=================

By the way, ACORN is a good organization and McCain and his stand-ins are attacking ACORN to distract people from real issue. http://www.acorn.org/

Tell her there is nothing wrong with ACORN in the first place. Ask her why she hasn't donated to them yet.

16. So what if
Obama is linked to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now? I think it's honorable for anybody to be linked to organizations that help the community, when since community organizing is such a bad thing? I guess community organizers are the new "Arabs" to these repubs now? I despise how the republicans use the bad action of a few to tarnish a whole group.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/11/us/politics/11acorn.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

It talks about the lawsuit where Obama represented ACORN. Turns out the Justice Department was on the same side as ACORN

20. Tell Her That Getting People to Register To Vote Is Patriotic
At least, it used to viewed as such. And that it is not the job of the person giving and taking the forms to verify them.
