We have deeper problems than we possibly know.

The fact is that is not a matter of Kerry being a bad candidate. It means the American people have lost complete control of the media and noise machine to corporate interests and that we have really crossed over that line into fascism.

Up until the last four years, I was one of those hopeless optimists who believed that it couldn't happen here like it did in Germany.

I truly have faith that the American people are generally good people who do the right thing when given all the facts.

Not trying to be negative and truly believe that Kerry will win, but if he doesn't, then it is an indication that something is horribly, horribly wrong in our country and we best be prepared to change our tactics to do something to put the country back on the right track.

1. If Kerry doesn't win,
the people will come to the understanding that our voting system, and democracy, is now an illusion. And that people no longer have the say in who will run this country.

2. I believe we have already lost control of our media.
It clearly isn't our media. I still believe Kerry could win just as Gore did.

6. If Kerry wins "just as Gore did", we're still fucked
Because it will be stolen again. There needs to be a victory beyond the "margin of error" so it can't be stolen via electro-fraud (and God only knows what kind of games in Florida) this time.

4. America is populated by idiots that have a short attention span
and go for the instant gratification of the village idiot's "gonna keep y'all safe" instead of taking the time to pay attention and doing the tough work (snicker)needed to know the difference between the distorted reality of Bush's bait & switch brand of gooberment and what a real leader like Kerry offers.

Americans (some)are lazy and easily lead by the nose.

15. I agree up to a point
it seems the "deluded ones" are the people who show up in front of TV cameras (Madison Square Garden was AWASH with them). But maybe there's a groundswell of "moderate" Republicans out there who are appalled by what they see and will either stay at home or will vote (holding their nose) for Kerry.

Maybe the US needs compulsory voting, like here in Australia.......

5. crossed over that line into fascism.
i agree and that is why i think this is so important. i lost a friend last week. after a lot of wasted time in talk she said something stupid, what about what they did to us......she whines. well she is talking 9/11 yet talking iraq war, but regardless in her error once again 9/11 not related to iraq i went off on her, started with iran/iraq war and progressed all the way to quagmire now and killing of the innocent and soldiers. i was aggressive and had her crying.

i have been feeling guilty for a week and woke up this morning. first thought, to lose a friend over this, not worth it. immediately in mind came, people are dieing,.......dieing......nothing beats that

told husband i cant take it back

personally i see once bush is reelected that is the end. that is all he needs. start draft and go after iran and korea and syria and we have no more elections

8. Getting off of the oil addiction could make a huge change.
I'm not optimistic. Regardless of who wins, the machine still has to turn, in order to fulfill the needs of all of these human beings. BUT, if we can change that one thing, we will create a new economy that revolves around a new energy conversion, AND we will defuse some of the petroleum related problems. At most, we can only eliminate around half of the problem related to combusting petroleum. We're in a pivotal time. And we can play this right, and make it through, or blow it with greedy goons like Bush and Cheney.

9. While it's true that the media is corporate fascist bullshit......
....people are waking up to that fact. I think a lot of people out there are beginning to realize that the mediawhores helped sell the LIE of Iraq to the American people. Once that sinks in, it can only lead to questioning about what else they lied about. Florida 2000. 9-11-01. Osama's "hit singles" every few months. Phony terra alerts. The whole house of cards could come down, if we just make sure to pull the right one out of the stack at the proper time......

So, if they dont get what they want legislatively they will get it via stacked courts....

13. Already have my escape route planned if it gets REALLY bad.
I'd rather stay and fight, but there comes a point where it may be smarter to to go elsewhere and instigate from the outside.

14. I'm not very optimistic either...
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 09:03 PM by WillW
Although I certainly think that Kerry can pull this off, I am disapointed that a person with whom i work, and who also claims to be a democrat, was cutting down the Kerry campaign and convention today. It made me wonder how many Dems are as politically aggressive as those of us reading/posting on DU are.

But more to the point, I agree that if Bush pulls this off, the working people not only of this country, but of the world from which corporate america maintains its cheap labor sweatshops, will be doomed short of a replay of Russia circa 1917.

18. If by minority you mean, the people who actually think and...
...look beyond rhetoric for the truth you might be right.

If by minority you mean that people don't want good paying jobs, job security, an end to poverty, freedom to speak, affordable health care, etc....then I have to disagree.

21. Civil Liberties Groups
I have already stated here that if Bush wins in November, I will donate $100 to the ACLU immediately after the election. In fact, I just joined People for the American Way a couple of nights ago, so I think I would become a monthly donor for them as well should the election go the wrong way. If Bush wins, I think we should all support civil liberties groups with the same intensity that we support Democratic candidates during election time.

22. That makes me think....yeah...IF the worst happens perhaps
bunches of us could either join an established group or start a fresh one for purposes of lobbying and/or getting issues addressed..

About a week ago, someone in DU said they had joined the NAACP. I like your idea; makes sense to me. Huge masses of people with some donation money and volunteer power et al joining these groups...

"Power in Numbers" sort of thing.

23. A stupid, malleable electorate deserves to have a stupid president
Let them elect this moron, then their factory will close and we'll be a banana republic.

In 2006 or 2007 a Bush voter who says "I was fooled!" can just go to hell. If they don't know that in 2004 then they deserve him.

It started years ago with Reagan, and Clinton was somewhat complicit.
