8. He is tough to defeat in television debates.
Remember all the news reports about how Bush beat Gore?

Kerry will win BIG points in the debates if he can at least keep up and counter at least one or two of Bush's points...

Keep your fingers crossed!!!

12. Well I disagree with you...I felt the media was bias. I never thought
he got the best of Gore... if he pissed on himself on stage the media will say he won. Maybe that is what you are talking about. But I cannot say that he is a master at anything.

13. Bush's "aw shucks" style of hood-winking gets results...
...and now that the electorate cant forget all that news in 2000 about Bush cleaning Gore's clock, voters have a much higher expectation of Bush this year...

In Kerry's case, there is the soft-biggotry of low expectations against him...

9. shine the truth on shrub et al

Our allies also know the historic importance of our work. About 40 nations stand beside us in Afghanistan, and some 30 in Iraq. And I deeply appreciate the courage and wise counsel of leaders like Prime Minister Howard, and President Kwasniewski, and Prime Minister Berlusconi -- and, of course, Prime Minister Tony Blair.

but I did not ask my Dad's, who happens to have been POTUS and fought a war with Iraq, opinion....Why???

10. As a high school student in the early 60's, I was required to attend a ...
Toastmasters' meeting at a local restaurant. The guy in charge was Bates. Toastmaster Bates!. We spewed lunch laughing. We were sent back to our high school speech class (Julia Elliott's) as persona-non-grata with the message for "Hallelujah Julia" that all of her future students were, also, persona-non-grata. Whew, big trouble there.

11. Kerry will need more than 2 debates to get his points across
because Bush is such a great debator and it will overshadow anything Kerry has to say.

14. While we're all having a sarcastic romp here
I taped the 2000 debates and reviewed them recently. Bush was lousy in debate #1, sniffling with a cold and very little forcefulness. Only Gore's magnificent self inflicted sighfest enabled Bush to win that by behavioral forfeit. It was the turning point of the campaign, IMO.

Otherwise, in #2 and #3 Bush improved noticeably, very at ease with the moderator, frequent smiles, a personable style and, of course, the typical and pathetic attempts at self depreciative humor. His policy themes and promises have proven even more ignorant and wrong than they sounded at the time.

Unfortunately, the politically uninvolved every-4-years types are looking for an ideal big brother or next door neighbor in a president, not a laundry list policy wonk. Kerry needs to understand that and fast, sharpening his speeches with memorable big idea sound bytes and coming across as likable as possible in the debates.

15. Fine, I'll perpetuate the meme
Bush is a master debater and will destroy Kerry in the debates. Kerry might as well just pack it in now, cause Bush is gonna wreck him.

Can I go shower now? I feel unclean.

20. Well, we know he's pulled more than a few boners in his time.
It would appear that the Daily Show has hidden away its hilarious segment on Bush's "big tent" reaction to his nomination in 2000. Too bad, as that might have been one of the funniest segments prior to last Wednesday.

23. Is Bush a Master Debater?
President Bush's campaign won't say for sure whether he will agree to the three debates proposed by the independent Commission on Presidential Debates, or if a Republican strategist was right this week when he said the Bush campaign would agree to only two debates.

I just read this on another forum. We have to write letters to everybody and anybody to let them know the American people want debates. Kerry has suggested a weekly debate on a different subject each week. bush campaign wants to cut the debates by one third for a total of a whooping two debates. If this smirking idiot who resides in the WH is such a master debater, why wouldn't he want as many debates as he can get? Answer: Because he can't even string three words together to make a coherent sentence.

24. He's a genius for low expectations.
That, and the "but he's trying so hard" angle. Kinda like the special olympics.

In this country, it's not whether you win or lose, it's whether or not you beat the spread. If Kerry's going to win the debate, he's going to have to do more than just win - he's going to have to knock Bush out, and thank God that Kerry recognizes that.
