to VOTE FOR KERRY!!!! No, she means it. Seriously. This is someone me and my friend have been "working on" for MONTHS. We tore apart (gently so as not to freak her out permanently) allll her arguments for bush, then we started laying Kerry out there. We gave her one-page printoffs taken from his website on all the issues--national security, healthcare, education, etc. The specifics on what he would like to do.

She was especially impressed by the Military Families Bill of Rights and admitted she loves Teresa!

So tonight, I am just piddling around and the phone rings, she asks if she can come over. She does, walks in, sits on my couch and says, "Ok. I'm voting for Kerry."

I started screaming and jumping up and down and she got all excited, too. Then I asked her how serious she was and she said very serious and do I have an extra button or something? She has gone to his site herself now and bookmarked it.

When I asked her what the final straw was for her she said, "Iraq. It's just a mess. And I think Kerry can do better with that. AND I did get laid off after 20 years with the same company. The economy stinks. I just think maybe he needs to retire now."

YEEEEEE FREAKING HA!!!!!!!

Oh God, I almost forgot, she also said she is trying to convince her husband to vote for Kerry now. He has NEVER voted Dem in his life, but she said she is going to "work on him."

13. Oh I do that too
in fact, most of my Kerry recruits have been soft-sells...people that could kinda go either way and I convinced them to go Kerry. She was just a personal pet project.

9. Well, I really haven't known that feeling until now
I mean I know I have convinced several people to vote for Kerry (including Mr. Moonbeam, who thinks Kerry is too conservative!) but very few of them were as completely difficult as her. She probably took five months to be convinced.

23. My best moment was in converting
my VERY conservative ex-military Christian friend.

He still hates Clinton, though I have avoided that issue with him as I feel it is irrelevant to today.

Anyway this guy voted for *Bush, and is now working for the local Democratic campaign.

Working on my parents as well, though that is hopeless.

Not that I will let up mind you.

Again great job.

On to the next person...

LOL

The good news is, your hard work will of course be replicated when she tells two friends, and they tell two friends, and so on, and so on...:D

NICE job!:bounce:

12. THANK YOU!!!
I really think she'll come to really admire Kerry, the more she learns. I certainly have. And what a fine thing it says about her, too, that she is open-minded enough to listen to you.

17. Oh noooooo!!!!
No she is seriously a lost cause. bush could stand on the White House lawn wearing nothing but dress socks and eating live puppies and she'd vote for him.

This is a different neighbor/friend.

18. I dunno
I no longer have the time or energy to work on someone that hard anymore, LOL!

I had actually just about given up on her. She sort of caught me off guard!

The thing I am hoping is that she convinces her husband to vote Kerry, too. She is VERY persuasive with her husband and their son is already voting Kerry (his first time to vote--guess who convinced him? Me. But he was easy.)

27. hit on stem cells
I've found that not-quite-committed almost-Bush voters can sometimes be swayed by the stem-cell issue. I ask if they know anyone with Parkinson's, diabetes, or MS, and of course, almost everyone has a family member with one of those conditions. And I say that something that will make a measurable difference in the lives of their loved ones is the cures that stem-cell research might bring. I remind them that government funding of this research will affect lives in a way that very few presidential actions will.

And sometimes that's enough. Very few undecideds really think that Bush is that much better on most issues than Kerry, and here's one issue that Kerry is 1000% better.
