Why Gore Can't Win
Should be called "Why nobody cares what Aubrey Immelman says" (because this prediction was DEAD WRONG just like the ones from the Kerry can't win bedwetters)

http://www.csbsju.edu/uspp/Election/gore070900.htm

<snip>

And the inescapable truth for Election 2000 is this: On the basis of campaign style alone, George W. Bush and any number of Republican contenders will beat Al Gore hands down.

Al Gore can’t win in 2000. And that should concern Democrats and Republicans alike. Gore appears to be a person of character and integrity, but as The New Republic’s Martin Peretz has said, he is “a sober man in a silly time.”

1. "he is “a sober man in a silly time.”
A wonderful discription of my dear Al Gore. He is “a sober man in a silly time”, that is the reason I admire him so much.

but I object to you using the term bed wetters about people here. Poeple have a right to discuss what they do and do not like about Kerry's campaign without other people being abusive. He is the party candidate and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
What kind of a board do you want? I think if we cut out all debate on Kerry's merrits we might as well be stepford democrats.

2. You left out this paragraph, by far the most important
"Considering the strength of the economy and the collective contentment of the American people, Gore’s sagging poll numbers seem inexplicable."

That advantage was squandered partially due to Monica, and Clinton fatigue, but primarily because of Gore's charisma/likability gap in comparison to Bush.

This year we have less of an inherent advantage, relying on dissatisfaction with Bush's economy and war, and Kerry will also trail Bush in the likability criteria. But Kerry will exceed expectations in the fall campaign and debates, not the reverse.
