Kerry & Edwards: Master Closers
One thing that hasn't been beat about so much is the fact that we probably have the two best 'closers' in America. These guys are masters at sealing the deal.

In 1996, John Kerry was running behind popular Massachusetts Governor William Weld by several points in the polls. However, during the debates Kerry was so smooth that he coulda sold a ketchup popsicle on a very hot day. He closed strong and ended up blowing out Weld in the end by double digits IIRC.

Four years later John Edwards was able to close the stature gap with incumbent Republican Senator Lauch Faircloth, who was backed by the powerful Jesse Helms machine in heavily Republican North Carolina. Yet Edwards was able to fend off attacks against his trial lawyer years and defeat Faircloth by closing out strong and ended up winning narrowly.

Both of these guys rocketed to the top in Iowa after being left for politically dead on the side of a cold dark Iowa road in the middle of the night. Kerry then vaulted past Dean in NH, and in turn Edwards almost was able to completely close the gap with Kerry in Wisconsin.

If it's within 2-4 points a week before the election, we win. It's that simple because as we learned in 2000, Bush and Cheney can't seal sh**. Plus the fact that undecideds are going to break overwhelmingly against these idiots anyways.

These guys WILL seal the deal. Because as comedian Ron White would say: "We know. We seen them do it."

1. The Misunderestimation of John Kerry - Esquire Magazine, July 04
Well worth reading. . .

The Misunderestimation of John Kerry
Beware of this man. He's won every race that he was supposed to lose.

<snip>

This is something else people should know about John Kerry: When you lose to him, he finishes you. Which is why it should have been a caution to the president when an anonymous Kerry advisor replied that if the White House were to go after Kerry on his divorce, or his wife's money, or some other area that Kerry deemed out of bounds, then "everything is on the table."

2. Our closer better get his whip out NOW!
Seriously, I've been away on a camping vacation for the last two weeks and coming back I don't like what I'm seeing.

If we're going to use the horse racing metaphor, Kerry seems like a jockey from the big city race track who goes to some little bush league bullring and is operating under the illusion that he's riding in a race where there are rules and referees to make sure that everyone has a fair chance.

The truth is the other horse has been hyped to the eyeballs. The other jockey's got a whole boatload of dirty tricks up his sleeve, and the stewards have either been bought off or have large sums riding on his opponent.

Our guy could be sitting on Secretariat, but that ain't gonna help him unless he drops the illusion that there is fairness in this game and that somehow the American people are going to see through all the lies and come rallying to his side.

It's time to start hitting hard, hitting personally and if he gets a chance to dump the other guy off his horse he damn well better do it.
