Why We Shouldn't Even Bother Trying to Win or Having a DU
As we all now know, Bush is going to win the election handily, perhaps with so great a margin that the Democratic Party will cease to exist, and all of our positions will appear ludicrously outdated. This is manifest and obvious, given the several polls in the last few days that show the enormous success of the Republican rhetoric at the convention, which even I - a long-time leftist - am starting to believe rather than fight against. I actually think Giuliani, Schwartzenneger, Miller and Cheney are correct. Bush himself impressed me mightily. I may even change my party registration from Independent to Republican.

We also now know the following things about the Kerry campaign:

1) It is ineffectual and flaccid.
2) Kerry IS a flip-flopper
3) It is too concerned with Independents and not aggressive enough.
4) If only they put "My Pet Goat" on TV, the teeming masses of America would turn against Bush with the swiftness.

I have gleaned all this in the last few days at DU, the new conservative center of the Internet universe. While posed as attacks on Bush, these many many posts are actually persuading me that Bush is correct about America, and the old DU is wrong wrong wrong. You think I'm kidding? I don't wanna line up with a pack of cowardly whiners. Simple as that.

The question: Is DU now the cowardly-whining wing of the *Republican* Party. Are the noxious hysterics at DU carrying water for the Republican Party, even when not intended. Looks like it to me.

1. Smarmy know-it-alls
I think some of the people who're carrying water are just plain smarmy know-it-alls, who happen to have gotten to a particular anti-Kerry point of view before anyone, so they've got to post it and watch the plebes agonize over it. The rest are just caught up in an emotional roller-coaster, inevitable given the slanted coverage in the so-called news media.

2. This is Labor Day Weekend
If these polls were on the last week in October, then we should really worry. As it is, this is nothing more than the normal bounce that political parties get after their conventions.

It is too early to pull the ejection seat. The plane is still on the tarmac.
