Susan Estrich is ANGRY--Strong words
http://www.creators.com/opinion_show.cfm?columnsName=ses

excerpts:

"After Vietnam, nothing is ancient history, and Cheney is still drinking. What their records suggest is not only a serious problem with alcoholism, which Bush but not Cheney has acknowledged, but also an even more serious problem of judgment. Could Dick Cheney get a license to drive a school bus with his record of drunken driving? (I can see the ad now.) A job at a nuclear power plant? Is any alcoholic ever really cured? So why put him in the most stressful job in the world, with a war going south, a thousand Americans already dead and control of weapons capable of destroying the world at his fingertips.

Or could it be George Bush's Former Female Friends for Truth. A forthcoming book by Kitty Kelly raises questions about whether the president has practiced what he preaches on the issue of abortion. As Larry Flynt discovered, a million dollars loosens lips. Are there others to be loosened?"

I think she's generally an annoying idiot, but boy is she pissed.

So is Frank Rich:

"How Kerry Became a Girlie-Man

Only in an election year ruled by fiction could a sissy who used Daddy's connections to escape Vietnam turn an actual war hero into a girlie-man."

1. So does Cheney still drink?
He acts like it with his judgements.

I didnt understand Estrich on that point.

2. You have to read the whole thing
She points out he had drunken driving arrests, as did Bush, but that Bush quit drinking (or claims to have) while Cheney is still drinking. It's basically a rant about repub smears and what comparable Democratic smears could be.

5. WOW - you buried the lead!!
KITTY KELLY IS PUTTING OUT THE GW* ABORTION STORY!!!

Awesome. Sure, she has a reputation as a muckraker, but she can get the story out there in the popular press.

11. I would like to see somebody attribute the Bush abortion story
to a credible source so I can take this to all of these "pro-lifers" around where I live who just fawn at Bush because of his pro-life position. Never mind that his war-mongering destroys lives. I guess in these peoples' minds, the value of an American fetus is more than the value of an Iraqi who had the bad luck of being in Bush's cross-hairs.

15. I don't think it matters
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 08:02 PM by Yo_Mama_Been_Loggin
I mean do you think the SBVFTs were credible? This dirt may work. The revelation of Bush's drunk driving conviction at the last minute made the 2000 race closer.

19. I fear that the Bush*lovers would just say it happened

before he was "saved." When he was "young and irrresponsible."

Bush* gets a pass for anything with a lot of folks. It's ridiculous, of course, but we have to just ignore them since they don't listen to reason.

21. Yes, but we're not trying to win over the "bush lovers."
We're trying to win over the undecideds. The abortion story could have an impact with them, not because of the abortion itself, but because of the hypocrisy of it, and because he's tried so hard to cover it up.

It's about the same round in this fight. It's time to stop dancing and punch.

10. Wow! Susan opened a few eyes with THAT
article, I bet! It's about damn time the dirty little secrets of this cabal have come to light. Now, is Kerry going to take it and run with it??? I sure hope so.

17. I don't think Kerry personally should run with it...
and I used to think no one should. But now I'm not so sure. It's like some little bomb is going off in people who've witnessed this slime for too long. Certainly that seems to be true with Susan Estrich, who saw Dukakis dragged through the mud. And then with John Glenn, who just radiates decency, to talk about the Nazi tactics of the Bush campaign (he's right about that).

Digby (who writes one of my favorite blogs) has an interesting take on this. He says Americans are in the midst of a "macho feeding frenzy."

"Diving Into The Mud

Ok, Democratic girly-men and manly-girls, now is the time to show what we are made of. No 20/20 hindsight, nervous-nellie self loathing is acceptable. Nobody likes whiners. Bush got a good bounce and he's got momentum, but we have two months to go and worrying about spilled milk is worthless self-flagellation. The Republicans do not respond to adversity by turning on their candidate and neither should we. Take a deep breath and then get mad --- not at Kerry. At Bush. That's where the focus has to be. If we lose, we'll help Chris Matthews sort out where it all went wrong later. It's showtime."

12. So Kitty Kelley writes about the Bush abortion?
That's what Estrich implies in the above column. Another reason to buy Kelley's upcoming book.

August 30, 2004 -- ....

THE gossip around: Kitty Kelley's Bush family vivisection gets published right after the convention, when residents return to civilization. It allegedly "has five major revelations." Supposedly, familial indiscretions naming names, places, times, etceteras. Plus W's documented missing year and service record.
