A local talk show host in Lima, Ohio on Thursday received a call from some guy who claimed he was from Syria. He said he was calling to announce that he had voted Democrat in previous elections and this year, he's voting for Bush. And he tore into the host's regular bashing of Bush by telling him he never needed government assistance and he currently owns his own business with 9 employees. He said he provides them their health insurance, which he purchases for only $250/month for a family plan with a $500 deductible.
The host was being as objective and fair as possible, but he tried to find out more about this guy's health insurance. The alleged Syrian businessman became more defensive and got more irate at the host, and got on some tangent about how Bush is doing what needs to be done by attacking Iraq before they attack the U.S. and he should continue this strategy by attacking Iran, Syria and other countries. The talk show host questioned if this random destruction of people and countries is proper, and the caller just got even more irate.
I was about to believe this caller until he tried to feed the host the line about his cheap health insurance. I've been associated with overseeing a health insurance group in one perspective or another for nearly 20 years, and I'm here to tell you that there's no such thing as a family plan that he described at that price. He said his company was State Farm. I don't think they're in the health insurance business. They're an auto-property & casualty-life insurance company.
I think this alleged Syrian businessman was set up to call the host to see if he can rattle the guy.
If nothing else, it was amusing to see what depths the Republican party here would stoop to support Bush.
