Barack Obama will be in the Fayetteville area Sunday for a public rally, kicking off the final two weeks of the contentious race for the presidency.
Paul Cox, press secretary for Obama’s North Carolina campaign, confirmed Wednesday evening that the Illinois senator will be here for a rally.
Cox couldn’t provide other details, including the specific location and the time.
One factor in the timing of the event was that Cumberland County — for the first time — is allowing Sunday voting on that day, Cox said.
“We have been looking at some sites in the Fayetteville area,” he said.
It is anticipated more details will be announced today, including how people can attend the free event.
This will be Obama’s second visit to Fayetteville this year. North Carolina has become an important state late in the game for Obama and his Republican opponent, John McCain. Tar Heels haven’t supported a Democrat for the White House since Jimmy Carter, but recent polls have shown that the state could swing either way.
A poll taken this past weekend by Raleigh-based Public Policy Polling showed Obama with a 49 percent to 46 percent lead over McCain, down slightly from the week before. However, Obama made gains with independents, the poll found.
OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay tuned for the location and other details!!!!
