Anecdotal, but at Palin's rally today in West Chester, a right-wing Cincinnati suburb, check out what a man in the crowd told the Enquirer's reporter:

"Matt Campbell of West Chester said the rally was a great scene, but said it's nothing like the last late-season GOP rally before a presidential election. In 2004, President Bush drew nearly 50,000 fans in the waning days of his successful reelection effort.
"You could barely see the Jumbrotron (in 2004)," said Campbell, wearing a "Hottest VP, Coolest State" button for Palin.
"I think it's a lot different now. It's a legendary election. You've got a female, and an African-American ... I mean, the Bush administration has definitely put a damper on the way people view the Republican party."
The rally was shown on local television; it disrupted my daily tonic, "The Price Is Right," giving me yet another reason to boo Sarah Palin. ;-) But one thing that really stuck out to me... I thought, "Wow, that crowd isn't very big for West Chester considering Sarah's supposed to be the rock star of the ticket. There's maybe 500, 600 people there!"
Remember, folks... it's this part of the state that handed Bush his second term. As the article details, Bush's margin over Kerry in 2004 was 95,000 votes in Butler and Warren Counties. This time around, it looks like the enthusiasm has waned significantly.
I'll continue to provide these little uplifting Ohio anecdotes as we march toward Election Day. And if you need another pick-me-up, if you missed my account of the 15,000 of us that gathered in Cincinnati to see Barack Obama on October 9th, you can read it
