I really thought the vile and hate filled spewfest at the RNC was going
to hurt the Repugs. I guess I had too much faith in the judgment of the American people. I can't believe the rubes fell for all that crap, and actually had it sway them to Bush's side. It seems that most of America just wants to vote for the more "macho" of the two candidates, and ignores the issues because then they'd actually have to think. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. These are the same retards who think pro wrestling and NASCAR racing are entertaining. I really don't know how to reach these boneheads, but Bush/Rove sure have their number. I am thoroughly disgusted with America.

1. The effect is not over yet. Still sinking in. Keep reminding undecideds.

2. Bear in mind...
that nobody in the media did their jobs. Nobody questioned the factual foundation of Zell Miller's hate-filled rant, nobody questioned the veracity of following speaches, or mentioned *anything* negative about *.

5. Not true.I was surprised by how many talking heads
questioned some of the factoids made up by the speakers esp. Zell.Woodruff, Matthews, and Jeff Greenfield all questioned the attacks on Kerry's voting record on Defense and all of them said Cheney voted against the same bills. They ALL said it and that was heartening. And of course we had Ron Reagan and Jon Stewart.Wait for the dust to settle. We are on the attack now.We can say they provoked us and we can respond without looking small .I think they shot themselves in the foot.We will prevail!

4. In cases like these, I believe in trickle-down
Although the cable news networks were going apeshit with the Bush "bounce," the print media was doing just the opposite, filling pages with fact-checking of prominent Republican speeches.

For another example, check out nostamj's latest, excellent editorial cartoon thread; it's chock-full of seriously anti-Republican cartoons from very mainstream newspaper artists:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2304422&mesg_id=2304422

Cable news is all about instant gratification. Rather than wait for the natural cycle to kick in, they want to know NOW who's going to win in 60 days. They want to break stories, so they have to be on top of every little ebb and tide. Everything you see on cable news is almost too ripe to be taken seriously.

Give it a little time, and I think the Time and Newsweek polls will begin to reflect reality better. The New York Times and Washington Post have been critical of the RNC, and eventually, that mood will trickle down to the local papers and television news.

And... everyone should ask themselves this question: Do you really think Bush would win by 11 points if the election were held today?

C'mon. :-)

6. Call me crazy..

but I still think it will.

Revivals of that nature get people drunk on hatred and anger, but I'm thinking they may wake up with a hangover by some time next week. They'll be looking at the guy lying next to them in bed and wondering "what have I done?"

7. Well, I am undeterred, even by the immediate situation, and I am
resolved to do something I have never done in a campaign before, and that is volunteer at the local Kerry/Edwards office for the next two months. Whatever little effect I may have on the election will be worth the effort.
