Brief report from tired canvasser helping in NM :^)
Hey DUers - I knew it would be kind of hard to knock on doors, but I wanted to help. Did a lot of 'em today... had a few cranky people, some others who were just suspicious/defensive, plus one gem who told the older woman I was canvassing with that 'God hasn't told me who to vote for yet', basically. Another older guy who was at least part Native American said 'It's none of your business' (which I understand), but then said 'We've got to get the Republicans out of there'. (OK, man, I know who you voted for :^) - he'd already done vote by mail). And another nice little old lady who said she just still hasn't decided - one says this, the other says that... and of course I had to bite my tongue, but gave her some info. from the campaign that has real answers for the biggest smears, so who knows, maybe I 'got' her...

But CHECK IT OUT - I shook the hand of one Bill Richardson this morning! Yep, good timing to be here (purely by accident) - he and a few others, including the southern NM Dem candidate for Congress, spoke at a packed cafe here in Carlsbad this morning. (It was cool for me, because although I know some of you don't like Richardson, when I lived in northern NM he was my US Rep and generally did a great job).

But I'm sleeping on the floor of a 20-something couple's place here (we played Rock Star last night :^) - and didn't get the greatest sleep. I brought a sleeping bag & pad (a too-hard pad, I should say) because I'm allegedly doing a little camping later, but I'm going to put one of their sleeping bags under mine tonight. Should help.

Anyway, gotta go... not staying up late tonight, for sure. I admire anyone who's done even more than just a day or two of this. We're heading 30 miles north to a different town tomorrow.

Keep up the efforts out there... people are helping here from TX, CA, AZ, and elsewhere. But oh yeah! - on the way here yesterday, in the TX hill county, I saw one of those do-your-own letters billboard-type signs with 'GO SARAH GO' on it. Made me want to puke... that and several large McPuke signs in ranching country. And here, I saw a 'Shut Up And Drill!' sticker... could be an oil-field worker - there's quite a few south and southeast of here.

4. I ALSO give you a gold star!!!!! You're surely worth your weight in gold. I wish I had the time...
to help do things like that. But my work hours and days just don't allow for much of anything else (I'm not complaining, tho...at least I HAVE a job!).

6. Thanks for your sacrifice
It's hard canvassing where you are in appears---not exactly being welcomed with open arms. And getting a lousy night's sleep at that. You're a good soul.

7. Good work in a great state. Are the aspen in full color there yet?
Northern New Mexico is where the rest of my heart lives. I regularly commute between Santa Fe, TN (where my farm is) and Santa Fe, NM (where I hope one day to buy more land. Actually about an hour north of Santa Fe).

Enjoy the Land of Enchantment. There are few better places on earth.
