Was McCain really ahead before the Wall street fiasco?
Because I remember at least think I do, that obama starting gaining momentum again, I thought most polls had Obama either even up by 1 or 2 points, is that correct?

3. Obama was ahead by a small amount.
The focus on the economy helped Obama I think but so did McInsane's erratic campaign. The suspending the campaign crap really sealed the deal for him.

4. McCain had a tiny window of being ahead from his RNC/Palin Pick Bounce. That's it.
There have been so many events compressed into such a short period of time, financial crisis, "campaign suspension" gimmick, 4 debates etc. that it's impossible to seperate out cause and effect on every move in the polls, but basically, McCain got some short term juice out of the RNC and his gimmick VP pick and now he's spent.

No question the economic crisis helps Obama and hurts McCain but he was losing his bump anyway.

12. And, it was mccain and his herd of elephants who
are responsible for the economy bust so it's only fitting that Obama should forge ahead.

That would really suck if mccain got votes for playing his part in tanking our economy.

6. The only time he "gained momentum" was after his convention
I posted this a few days ago and only had a couple of replies. As you can clearly see McCain has NEVER held much of a lead.

7. That is Pat Buchanan's load of cobblers -
McCain got a dead cat bounce out of his convention - and that was that.

10. Bay Buchanan was pissing and moaning on AC360 about this too
"It's only because of the bailout, it's not because of Obama's personality or his campaign!" Uh, sure thing, Bay. She also used the same David Duke comparison that her brother had used earlier on Hardball (to Ayers? Wright? Don't even remember). Gergen was disgusted and said "No...that's just wrong. Let's get that straight here...so that comparison is off the table." Pat and Bay clearly share talking points.

8. Obama had already regained his lead. The Wall Street meltdown
merely exacerbated his momentum.

McCain's brief stay at the top was nothing more than a dead cat, post-convention, bounce.

9. I heard McCain was ahead by an average of +2, but it was slipping even before the economy cratered.

11. McCain got a convention bounce that dissipated
Obama has essentially led for the whole cycle, with the exception of some eight days or so after the Palin speech.

The notion that it was close, and suddenly not is just ludicrous.

People don't like Republicans right now. Pat Buchanan doesn't want to admit it.
