Colin Powell's support for Obama might stop short of a formal endorsement, according to "sources."
Signs that Republican Colin Powell will support Barack Obama for president

By THOMAS M. DeFRANK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF
Updated Saturday, October 18th 2008, 1:09 AM

WASHINGTON - After months of playing political Hamlet, Colin Powell is finally ready to tell America who he likes for President - and the smart money says Barack Obama is Powell's choice.

Sources close to the retired four-star general and American icon cautioned that Powell's support for Obama over John McCain might stop short of a formal endorsement when he's interviewed on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday.

Given Powell's cautious nature, he might decide to make his endorsement of Obama implied, rather than explicit. Even so, a well-informed source told the Daily News:

"After Sunday people aren't going to have any doubt who he's voting for."

10. Frankly, if he came out and flat out said BO ...
was the the next coming of Abraham Lincoln, and fully endorsed him it would be pointless and self serving at this point.

his giving only a flacide (sp) endorsement only makes him a complete and unmitigated douchebag, as opposed to just thinking he is just a complete douchebag - like he needed THIS long to make his mind up? His "endorsement" half baked or otherwise at this point is like someone at a roulette table waiting until the ball has set, then trying to make a bet.

He threw in with these jerkoffs to begin with, which can be layed on simple stupidity, but he sold out to the lies to get the country into Iraq, was a KEY part of selling it, and has NEVER taken any substanative amount of personal responsibility.

He COULD have chosen to do the right thing and ring in here when it mattered A LOT MORE, but he has held back until was 99% sure of the final outcome - as you rightly noted, nothing other than self serving.

5. Stay quiet then
As long as he refuses to endorse McCain, I'm happy. My biggest fear right now is that Powell endorses McCain, because I can't even imagine how insane with joy the media would be. And even though a Republican endorsing a Republican shouldn't be that big a deal, the media will make it the comeback narrative. SO as long as he doesn't push for McCain, I'm good. THough an endorsement for Obama would definitely start the week strong for Obama with media-types.

7. Sounds like he's trying to have it BOTH ways. I told you guys
he wouldn't out right endorse him.I respect Micheal Smercornish more than Powell hears a republican that runs a right wing talk show who said he will not be voting for McSane instead he would vote for Obama.

11. No problem. Maybe better that way.
It will still be a major story and a major put down to McLoser.

12. Its better than nothing
Lets refrain from bashing Powell and welcome whatever support he can give Obama. It will be big news and its welcome news if this is true.

13. I think I understand why.
You know what the narrative would be, if Powell went for a full-fledged endorsement: he's picking the Black guy because he is himself Black. Now *I* don't believe that and probably nobody HERE believes that, but that's the story some would try to advance. You KNOW some Republican would say it, and things are so wacky now that they might not even bother with code.

Discussing both candidates on their merits -- and harshly dissecting McCain's serious shortcomings as a commander-in-chief from a military perspective -- could be very effective indeed. If what he says helps Obama win and gets him more votes and credibility with military types, I am all for it.

When I heard him huff, "This evidence is irrefutable!" at the UN that day, I instantly figured out:

1) that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq;

2) that Bush was going to invade Iraq despite there being no weapons of mass destruction;

3) that Bush was going to invade Iraq despite there being no weapons of mass destruction because they wanted the oil and military positioning in the Middle East;

4) Oh, and of course, that Powell was lying like a rug.

But if I may quote my friends in the rock band Rush, if you choose NOT to decide, General, you'll STILL have made a choice.
