Please don't vote straight Dem ticket!
Please vote individually on all your local and representative elections. Here's an example of why: Our horrible republican representative Ted Poe doesn't even have a Dem running against him, just a libertarian, and if I vote straight Dem, I won't have the chance to at least vote AGAINST Ted Poe. Same thing with one of our judge positions. So please take the extra couple of minutes to make sure you get every opportunity to vote against a republican! :hi:

2. I told my sister in Texas the same thing.
They're using touch screens so be sure and double check selections.

Ted Poe....good grief.

7. I know... we lost Nick Lampson to
that ass Ted Poe due to all the redistricting the repubs did in Texas. I was surprised no Dems ran against him this time, but I guess they figured why bother since they've got it rigged with the redistricting.

15. Yes, but we will have control soon, and then it's OUR turn to gerrymander!
I actually hate gerrymandering. It diminishes the power of the voter and really, should be illegal. So my comment was a tad tongue in cheek.

6. I'm not voting straight Dem but for a different reason
I'm not a fan of my Democratic state representative. He has no Republican opponent and it's a more Democratic city so he will win. I just don't like him and won't vote for him.

8. I hear ya. We have a local tax assessor
who calls herself a Dem, but she's most definitely not. I voted for the independent who ran against her last time. We're in a Dem county & so many people vote straight Dem ticket that she'll keep winning, but there's no way in hell I'll ever vote for her.

11. Oh, yeah, I've got the same problem in this county.
Lots of races with no Dems, but frequently there is a Libertarian or Socialist. Hey, it's a protest vote.

12. We have to vote straight Dem here
because our Diebold machines are programmed to time out after 2 and a half minutes and it's a long ballot. Our local election commissioner (who is a republican) said he is trying to get the machines programmed so we can start over if we run out of time while voting. But the way they are set up now is your vote is canceled if you don't finish in the allotted time and you are given a provisional ballot.

So we are telling everyone in our county to vote straight Dem.

30. We have been on it since August
Our commissioner, while a republican, is a fairly upstanding public servant and he let us know as soon as he discovered the time limit. So we contacted the media, they gave it a bit of coverage, and we contacted Brad at brad's blog but he never replied.

So our only option is to spread the word that voting a straight ticket is probably the smartest thing to do.

16. I'm voting straight ticket
It helped turn NH all Dem for the first time in 100 years in 2006.

Straight Dem makes sure ALL of your Dems are included and keeps the lines moving on election day so everyone can vote as it takes less time.

22. Yep, and straight ticket voting was credited with NH's turn to blue
It should be encouraged as leaners who might vote Republican or not at all down ticket are ensured of voting all Dem. Discouraging it actually can ONLY HURT Democrats - these threads really bother me.

17. You're actually empowering the f*cking Libertarians with your vote?
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 10:52 AM by Mark E. Smith
Greens, Peace and Freedom (the Nader shit heap in CA this year), Libertarians, The Constitution Party,
American Independent, to me they all pretty much suck.

Of course, here in LA County there is always a Democrat to vote for. And I vote straight Democrat
every time.

But to actually empower the Libertarian party with your vote? The home of Bob Barr? You need to think
that through a little.

:hi:

25. Yes, I'm going to do a protest vote for the libertarian who is
running against that asshole Ted Poe because there's no Dem to vote for in that race. My point is to look at each race individually for cases like that, especially local races in red states.

I can't get behind. Why not write somebody in?

19. Good call
Here in Madison, WI, my absentee ballot contained mostly uncontested races with Democratic candidates, but I still went down each and every category and voted for each individual candidate. I've never believed in just hitting the straight party vote. I want to make it clear I'm voting for people and not for parties.

20. A straight ticket vote in NC will NOT vote for the President - requires separate action.
Ppl need to be made aware of what the protocol is in their state.

28. Check out Poe's votes on
"Welfare and Poverty", "Family and Children's Issues", "Labor", and "Employment and Affirmative Action" to name a few. He's been horrible, though we're stuck with him for at least another term. I'm voting libertarian just as a protest vote.

35. thanks -- I'll study this out -- maybe I'll just do the straight Dem after all.
No doubt he'll win regardless. I would be the only one knowing it was a protest vote. A Libertarian would have an even more extreme voting record. Why didn't any Dem run against him?? Guess they knew it would be futile. :( What's wrong with Texans!!! We used to be a Democratic state - way back when! :((

33. Why?
Free market capitalism is less bad than Haliburton-Enron crony capitalism.

Civil libertarians are better than reactionary authoritarians.

A government that stays out of the marriage business is better than a homophobic government.

Secularism is better than theocracy. (If you disagree with this, you're a Freeper.)

I disagree with the Libertarians on economics and on the role of the state, but I sure as fuck would back them over all but the most liberal Repukes.

If Bush's only opponent in his gubernatorial run had been a Libertarian, would you have voted for Bush? If you say yes, you're on the wrong message board.

26. We don't have the option
You have to vote each office individually. In Washington candidates don't run as a member of their political parties, they just state whatever party they "prefer". Half of the Republicans are listed as preferring the "GOP Party". Idiots.
