Martin Responds: "I've Spent My Whole Life Fighting for Kids, Which Is a Lot Different from What Saxby Has Done."
Here's his press release:
ATLANTA - Little more than a day after incumbent Senator Saxby Chambliss launched an advertising smear campaign against him, Senate candidate Jim Martin responded with his own ad. The commerical, which began running Thursday, turns the tables on Chambliss and reminds voters of the real difference between the candidates.
"For Saxby Chambliss to suggest I was insensitive to the loss of a child," says Martin in the ad, "well, that's just plain offensive. I've spent my whole life fighting for kids, which is a lot different from what Saxby has done. While he was giving tax breaks to Wall Street, I was working to make sure every child in Georgia has health care.
"I approved this message, because the real difference in this race: Saxby Chambliss supports George Bush economics, and I think we need to make the economy work for the middle class again."
Martin built a reputation as a leading advocate for children over his 18-year tenure in the state legislature and his service as Commissioner of Georgia's Department of Human Resources. Martin has been the recipient of numerous awards for his work including the 1994 Georgians for Children "Children's Champion Award", the 1997 Parent to Parent of Georgia "Legislative Service Award", and a recognition of outstanding service in 2002 from the Adoptive and Foster Parents Association of Georgia.
