That is how it feels to be thrown under the bus by the Republican wingnuts. If Powell endorses Barack tomorrow, the criticisms and slurs will the right start (i.e. Powell is just supporting one of his own, etc.) The wingnuts have no loyalty except for the likes of Rush and Hannity.

And don't worry John, you will get the same treatment the day after you lose the election.

1. That is likely the truth
And Powell is an actual Five Star General, one the repubs like to hold up as being "Pro-American" or something like that. Now they will likely say "Screw him." and that's a good thing, in a way. Because the American people who admire Generals and the like will see just how despicable the gop talking heads are. Again.

2. Is he definitely going to endorse Obama?
Would he do any campaign events with Obama? I don't care whether you like or hate Powell; he can help Obama.

3. That may be a good thing for our side.

Despite our feelings for Powell, I believe that average Americans still have an enormous amount of respect for him. That's what I've heard when I talk to people who aren't political junkies like us.

If a respected man like Powell is thrown under the bus by McCain and the GOP, I think it will turn a lot of people off. "How can you turn against an American hero like Powell? How can McCain turn against a fellow veteran?"

Like everything else they've tried, it will backfire.

On edit: I should clarify something ... when I said "despite our feelings" I was talking about many DUers, but NOT all DUers. :-)

7. But why is this when the voters in general disapprove of Iraq
and Powell in his respectability went to the UN, convincing these types of voters at the time that attacking Iraq was necessary. You'd think they'd be the very people to feel betrayed by Powell.

9. I totally agree with you - they SHOULD feel betrayed!

But for some reason, it seems that a lot of people, even if they were against the war, still trust and respect Powell. They probably believe he was duped by BushCo.

5. It's already started. Faux has pre-emptively been ridiculing him...
showing him on stage with rappers.

They'll conveniently bury it again if he ends up endorsing McCain, of course, but they must think he'll endorse Obama for them to whip that out so quickly.

6. if he IS going to endorse Obama
and I still consider that an IF, he knows the shitstorm he will attract. If he is as smart as I think he is (despite some extremely BAD failings) he will go for broke, and throw all the neocons under the bus first. He has to KNOW they will paint him as all sorts of weasel, Black Panther, turncoat, disgruntled former employee, and several other things. He should assume that has already been done, and not hold back. Say what he REALLY thinks of them, before they jump on him. He should name names - "Wolfowitz said..." "Cheney said..." "Rice said..."

Get it all out there. Stir up such a shitstorm of a "tell all" giving the press raw meat to follow up on that the pathetic protests of "Powell is a naughty boy" are just lost.

I would like to hear him say he does not agree with Obama on lots of stuff, but is compelled to endorse him because the alternative is too awful to contemplate. I'd rather hear a lukewarm endorsement that can't be dismissed than glowing praise that could be marginalized as "just sticking with his own."

11. I used to have a bit of respect for him--until he shook that vial at the UN
and repeated TOTAL LIES to them about germ warfare and WMDs and stuff that to this day I believe he knew was plain FALSE when he was saying it.

He's just as bad as Wolfowitz and Cheney and even if he endorses Barack I still say he is a POS.

16. Don't get me wrong - I think his endorsement would be great for Obama but
nothing in his history suggests he will take a principled stand.

He has always provided cover for the GOP when they really needed it and I doubt he'll change now.

12. I'm not a fearfull person, but.....
I do fear what the conservative movement will do to try to recapture power in this country. They will either learn from their extremism or they will double down and be truly horrific in their efforts.

13. Less than enthused over a Powell endorsement
After making the fraudulent case for WMD in front of the UN Security Council, I don't really care whom he chooses to endorse. At this late stage, he is likely just fishing for a cabinet position.

Not the first part about the UN speech, but the second part about "fishing".
