Which newspaper/magazine endorsement is the most surprising?
As a proud member of Generation Y, I'm not too knowledgable about print media throughout the country. Don't ge me wrong, I know the big ones (NY Times, LA Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Washington Post, etc) but I'm less familliar with the leanings of the regional papers.

It was a jaw dropper for me.

7. I agree! I thought I had read it wrong....
Then I thought the poster had written it wrong. Then I thought maybe I hadn't really woken up that morning. Then I thought maybe I had woken up in an alternate universe..Then I thought...HOLY SHIT!!

10. I know, right?
I called my dad yesterday and said, "Dad, Hell just froze over, the Trib endorsed Obama." I'm sure I could have knocked him over with a feather.

3. Chicago Tribune and Salt Lake Tribune were both totally unexpected.
The Chicago Tribune has never endorsed a Democrat, and it's been around 160 years. And Utah is blood-red Republican.

8. The Chicago Tribune, I think even more so than Salt Lake paper
The Trib rarely endorses any democrats and never for president. Heck, they endorsed Barry Goldwater in '64 over LBJ. And never once endorsed FDR. The Salt Lake paper is actually much more moderate than Utah itself and Salt Lake City is actually much more liberal than the rest of Utah and Mormons don't dominate SLC the way they dominate the rest of Utah.

11. Chicago Tribune
This paper has endorsed Republicans since Lincoln (and may well have endorsed Fremont when he ran in 1856-not sure of that). The paper NEVER endorsed a Democrat before--in fact, the Trib hated FDR, JFK, etc. This is big news.

12. Chicago Trib
for 2 reasons

1. never before endorsed a Dem for President
2. being a Chicago paper, they know Obama better than most of the country and this endorsement dispells any "terrorists" links in Chicago...they know who Aryes and Wright are and it doesn't matter...
