If Joe the Plumber had been BLACK...
If a black man with the same agressive, confrontational body language, shaved head, and dress as "Joe the Plumber" had walked up to McCain and started questioning him and then made statements that McCain had "tap-danced around the questions like Al Jolson," something tells me he wouldn't have become a folk hero to "Joe Sixpack." He probably would have gotten tasered to the ground, arrested, and have Fox News calling him a terrorist.

1. That's a fairly accurate vision, especially given the klan rallies McCain/Plain have been hosting.

3. That's why the issue of white privilege should be discussed in light of this campaign.

Had Joe the Plumber been Black, he would have been carted away by the secret service and thrown in Gitmo for being a terrorist.

And the "real" Joe, who isn't a plumber, in debt and has other issues to boot, is becoming famous for essentially doing nothing. He practically stalked Mr. Obama at that event.

I still think the man was a gift from the Keating branch of the McCain supporters.

5. And if by some miracle he was allowed to ask the questions...
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 03:55 PM by Bippity Boo
The news narrative would have been about how "brave" McCain was to take the question and how "unflappable" he was in the face of "anger," rather than how commendable Joe was to ask the question.

6. This entire Joe business begs the question of who's really running the show?
I think the entire "Joe the Plumber" episode lays bare the reason why the McCain wants to swat at the hornet's nest of division. I think he would be pleased if the country goes down in flames due to the Senator and his surrogates preaching about "American values".

4. Dead on.
Maybe change "Al Jolson" to "Tommy Tune," though.

(Ok, I'm trying to make a funny. And this isn't really funny.)

7. Yep
I've been thinking about this the whole time. If Joe the plumber had been black and confronted McCain like that, Faux News would have praised McCain for standing up to a thug.

Racism in America is alive and well and is being aided and abetted by the Corporate Media Whores.
