Lots of Kerry/Edwards signs in this conservative area - not many for * (m)
I know this isn't scientific, but I live in Western Michigan - traditionally very conservative, and I live in an affluent and fairly conservative part of western MI yet.

In a trip from the pizza place to my house last night - roughly a quarter of a mile - I saw about two dozen Kerry/Edwards yard signs and three Bush/Cheney ones.

In addition, I saw about 8 or 10 for a democrat running for the state house. We don't even always have democrats running for local offices. I was amazed.

I don't understand how the polls can show Bush leading or even it being a toss-up in this state. Everything I'm seeing - yard signs, bumper stickers, etc. - lead me to believe that not only will Kerry take Michigan pretty easily, but his coattails will help local democrats as well.

I hardly ever saw a bumper sticker or yard sign for Gore four years ago.

1. Well, I'm spoiled by living in free Califonia
but the bumper stickers here are running about 30 to 1 in favor of Kerry.

2. What I think is the difference between this election and the last one here
is that we have lots tons and tons of good jobs. People who lost their high paying manufacturing jobs are now taking jobs that used to belong to college students. We had pizza delivered a few weeks ago - can you tell we like pizza lol - and the guy who delivered it was in his 40s and had kids in his car. I asked why the kids were with him and he said his wife had to take a night job and couldn't take the kids, so he started delivering pizzas because the kids can sit in the car while he does it. He used to work at a paper plant.

This kind of stuff has been going on all the time here. And Bush said he thinks outsourcing is a good idea! He has been ridiculed around here for saying that.

3. I live in Kentwood
I have seen about a half-dozen Kerry and Kerry/Edwards signs and one Bush/Cheney sign. I have seen a couple more Bush/Cheney and W '04 bumper stickers than Kerry/Edwards stickers.

4. I notice to but

I happen to believe that the left is far more energized. I have two stickers on my car...but I am so aggrevated I am thinking about putting a radical sticker on my car linking Bush to fascism instead of just my K/E sticker. What this tells me is I-like everyone on the left-are so energized, so ready to fight, so dedicated to the cause we do anything we can.

The Repukicants know their President is a abject failure, but because he is a "man of God" and is "tough on terror" he has blind devotion from those who support him.

My point is this: Shrub has the same support that Kerry has, but his followers aren't as proud or dedicated to him, because they know he's a pieace of crap. However, they don't like Democrats or Liberals so they will still vote for Bush. In the end, the bumper stickers are not a good indicator in my view.

Not trying to rain on the parade...because I love it. I parked at George Mason University (a right-wing Economics school in a Conservative area of NOVA) and I saw K/E stickers everywhere.

5. I'm in Michigan, too...
In a Dem-safe area of Detroit. :-)

However, my parents are in a well-off area of Oakland county, and I'm astonished how many Kerry signs I'm seeing up that way. During 2000, Bush signs were everywhere. Not this time.

I also had the opportunity to be up near Lansing a couple weekends ago and saw lots of Kerry stickers there, too. It's a college town (MSU), so I suppose that makes some sense. They're draft age after all.

6. Same here, in a traditionally Republican area....
lots of signs for our Democratic House candidate too, and not many for the incumbent.....

"I don't understand how the polls can show Bush leading or even it being a toss-up in this state."
Frankly, I think those polls are bullshit too....and one reason is that they're only reporting "likely voters", i.e., those who voted in 2000 who plan to vote this year. If you sat out 2000 but plan to vote this year, you're not counted in those polls.

The candidates themselves do lots of internal polling that doesn't get released to the media...and the Republicans sure aren't acting like they've got any sort of lead whatsoever.

9. Ah...
I did not know that. I'm sure they'll start cropping up like noxious weeds, then. I do agree with an earlier poster that Dems are more energized this year, so that counts for something as well. It's going to be a long two months.

BTW, thanks for the info.

10. Same here in NE Ohio....Is there a large area somewhere.....
....populated by SO many repubs that the poll numbers are justified?
Maybe in Sean Hannity's neighborhood?

Or are the Buxh supporters ashamed to show their allegance?

I can't imagine going into a bar or a store or a social function where the Buxh people outnumber Kerry voters by ANY ratio.
