Powell is the Checkmate
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 09:23 AM by livedemocarticordie
Mark my word. His favorability ratings acros the board , across races and across parties have been high for virtually his entire public life. If you don't know that inform yourself. Read the PEW research polls all the way through last autumn's polls and Gallup and all the others. This is an AMERICAN who, whether your left politics jive with his or not, carries weight, pressing weight. This a soldier and like or not someone has to defend this country--with not just their minds but their bodies. This is not Sangra-la, Utopia.

For persons like me, who grew up in Washington DC, who was one of the first little 6 year old black girls to integrate the Roman Catholic schools, Powell stood for something, and it was the sweat and blood of being the integrator, of struggling to make a path for those behind him. I have worked on Democratic campaigns since high school when I volunteered for months for Jimmy Carter. I also have a 3 star general in my family (Black and now deceased) and a brother who served in Germany for many years. For this reason, I get military and while I have a pacifist, isolationist streak in my soul, I respect the honor of people who serve.

Without the Powells of the world, there would be few Barack Obamas.

PS -And yes-- like Essene I see his errors but I nonetheless respect Powell, his service and his endorsement.

GO BARACK, we love you. Go Powell, thank you.

5. $50 mil here, $50 mil there - pretty soon you are talking about real money.

4. While I appreciate your point, I would also say "keep your seat belts fastened."
There is more to come.

6. Nope, it's not Checkmate
It was a check and it forced McCain to move his queen.

But it's mate in 16.

7. Powell just took away the "terrorist" line. That's major.

Now all McC has left is 1) promoting the rich, which is Bushism; or 2) Religious Right issues. Both will be losers right now.

Powell also undercut McC's judgement. That was all he had on his side with some people.

So... maybe not completely a checkmate, but pretty close to it.

8. no way. Powell is a pawn that we took a knight with
but Obama's still got more players and more moves.

Bishop corner attack: Airtime purchased on two, three, or more channels the night of October 29th
Knights in place: A $150 Million September allowing him to buy airtime for ads and supports volunteers on the ground.

and lest we not forget about the Queen.

9. Well admittedly my chess is ..
rusty.

But I will say this and maybe it's becasue I live so close to VIRGINIA aka the rebel yell--- This endorsement will tip a number of voters in military regions like virginia, ncarolina, florida and south carolina. It will help and it may be decisive with some voters...

obviously folks need to vote and we need to get out the vote.. and hopefully Barack will pour lots of final dollars and days into making certain Florida is ours..
