Poll question: Please rate the new Kerry ad: 'Immediate Help'
The Kerry-Edwards campaign Saturday unveiled a new television ad revealing once again that there is a difference between what George Bush says and what George Bush does - this time on Medicare.

On Thursday in his convention speech, Bush claimed seniors are getting relief from his Medicare bill, but the next morning, he imposed the biggest hike in Medicare’s history.

Featuring footage of Bush speaking at the convention, the ad gives the American people the opportunity to see that there is a difference between what their president says and what their president does.

“The largest premium hike in Medicare’s history isn’t ‘immediate help,’ it’s the wrong direction for our seniors,” said Kerry-Edwards campaign spokesperson Phil Singer. “The choice in this election is clear: if voters want a president who gives billions to the drug companies, stick with George Bush. If voters want a president who will lead America in a new direction and put the needs of seniors first, vote for John Kerry.”

The ad will be rotated into markets across the country and also air nationally on cable.

1. i like it, but
i wish at the part where he has to give the "i'm john kerry and i approved this ad" that they would change it to "i'm john kerry and i approved this ad because "fill in short simple but strong statement".

but i'm guessing there might be some issues which have to do with the length of the ad.

20. The Graphics are too confusing....

The four headlines that fly in are too much for the average senior to take in quickly. Hell, in the last few years it's become apparent that more folks suffer from short attention spans, low reading comprehension, and are suckers for eye-candy.

The visual: a guy lands on an aircraft carrier at sea.
The message: 'Mission Accomplished'.

While we're all familiar with the mendacity of that particular stunt, the methods are sound. Keep it simple. Simple message, and hammer it home.

2. Older voters still vote in larger numbers than any other group
A powerful ad for older voters and people concerned about the health care crisis among our senior citizens.

Perfectly timed.

10. Will it help motivate undecided seniors to vote for Kerry?
I think that is a more important criteria than whether it 'makes your guts burn' but, you are welcome to judge it as you see fit.

seniors, not to ...

6. My husband
says "All they have to do is put Bush on and he'll sink himself". This should be very effective, especially with the elderly AND with those getting ready to retire.

because it points out the credibility problem the Bush administration has.

11. small problem: did they say, bush "imposed" or "opposed"?
It was probably "george bush imposed the largest ..." but with my hearing impairment, I couldn't be certain. They should have chosen a more clearly hearable word.

13. It's a start ... we need a series of Bush ads using his own statements
against him. I'd like to see some on the war also.

I give it an 8.

18. I agree! I also gave it an "8"
Kerry needs to use bush's words, then contrast them with facts from reputable sources.

One example is bush's "we got rid of the Taliban", then show the article about the latest attack by the Taliban where three (I think) Americans were killed.

14. Why just call for the status quo
why not call for universal health care?
We're the richest nation on earth. Why not universal healthcare? Why not full employment?
Why are corporations allowed to make obscene profits and pay CEO's over 400 times what people on the shop floor make? Are we that stupid? Have WE no shame?

17. This is the single most effective ad of the campaign so far
I give it a 10. The senior vote will be crucial. In Iowa during the primaries Dean got sidetracked when Gep went on the offensive about Dean supposedly supporting cuts in Medicare. It hurt--seniors listen and watch and they vote. This contrast between what Bush is saying and his actions is highly effective.

19. Not as aggressive as I'd like...
but at least it's shifting attention back to the failed promises of Bush*. Maybe he could run one on Bush*s promise of a "humble" foriegn policy.

23. Should have included a series of bush's phony promises...
when oh when will they do that? Bush's credibility needs to They should have done that from the beginning. I don't understand why they still don't understand that bush's "resolve" needs to be the issue.

25. 9-- very effective. Clinton would have had the last visuals of the ad
show him smiling and talking to the old lady (and she with him) with her clasping his hand with that two handed "you're such a nice man" handshake that only old ladies can do, not him speaking to some group.

A minor, minor quibble with a well0done ad.
