.
I wonder if the Kerry/Edwards campaign's internal polls are showing it close here, or if he's going by the state-wide polling (which also puts it fairly close).

It would be so damn sweet if Kerry/Edwards took NC! It obviously looks 'in play.'

Kerry is coming to Greensboro

9-5-04

By Eric Dyer, Staff Writer
News & Record

Presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry will be visiting Greensboro this week to drum up support for his bid to capture the White House, the Democrat's campaign said Saturday.

Kerry is scheduled to arrive at Piedmont Triad International Airport late Monday night and hold a public town-hall event the next morning at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot downtown.

It will be his third appearance in North Carolina since he named John Edwards, a former Raleigh trial lawyer, as his running mate. Edwards, a first-term U.S. senator who ran against Kerry in the Democratic primary, has campaigned in his home state five times this summer.

Appearances by a candidate are a clear sign of how seriously a state is being contested. Bush reportedly will be going to Charlotte later this month for a fund-raiser.

4. Kerry in NC
Kerry did not make a HUGE splash unfortunately, but there has been a lot of concern weather wise etc... still, a lot of folks really do detest Bush here in NC (live here BTW)... there is a lot of ANYBODY BUT BUSH stuff still playing strong here... even some that voted for Bush (even though not all got counted) hate his guts today because he has killed so many of our boys going after the wrong man.

3. Definitely In Play
. . . and Kerry is going to just the right spot, Greensboro - - big turnout there will be essential. Even more encouraging than the fact that the Dimson must continue to spend money in what should be a rock solid state for him is his upcoming visit to Charlotte. If he thinks he needs an appearance there, of all places, I would imagine there are some very close internal NC polls on both sides.

Extremely good news. Hit NC, VA, AR and WV hard, guys!!!!! Come on!!!!!

I am VERY new to DU, but so glad to be a part! Thanks to all of you.
I am curious about the above mentioned upcoming trip Kerry has planned for charlotte. I live in Wilmington and won't be able to
make it to Greensboro this Tuesday, but would like to know if there
are upcoming Charlotte dates so I can plan ahead....Thanks to all!

5. Even if they don't think they can win it outright, it's smart.
It will be close enough to make Shrub spend time and resources just holding on to his base. Plus campaigning in a state Bush* has guaranteed he'd win is a nice shot across the bow.

16. This close to the election, that's what I think too!
That means that NC is in play.

Also means that Bush has to spend money here, and time, and resources, to try to make sure he doesn't lose here!

All good.

(Plus, John Edwards' Senate seat will most likely be retained by a Dem (Erskine Bowles) who is still polling waaaay ahead of his opponent.)

10. Polls in N.C. are showing that Kerry has a good shot at it!
One of the local NPR stations (out of Chapel Hill) did a special on it about a month ago.

It seems like there's a lot of support for Kerry, and a lot of anger at Bush, that has taken over traditionally republican regions of the state.

Kerry has made big inroads in the eastern part of the state, but, except for small pockets of liberalism, the western part of the state is still bush.

Having said that....I really think if Kerry shows some of the shit bush has pulled, and hits bush hard on some of it, many of the repukes will stay home, rather than cast their repuke vote.

The economy in N.C. has been hit pretty hard. All our textile jobs and a huge chunk of our IT jobs have been outsourced. Even some of the fundies I know aren't going to vote this time.
