It's a positive for the campaign and we should realize it and milk it for what it is worth.

1. Exactly!
Powell's honor (or lack thereof) is irrelevant. It's not our vote his endorsement will get.

However, a lot of the right wing, Bush Doctrine worshippers will think twice about voting for McSame.

This endorsement does have some value!

2. Powell is endorsing a candidate who was against Bush's war
and will undo many if not most of the disastrous projects of the Bush years.

While not a mea culpa, it's certainly pretty significant, wouldn't you say?

4. People need to remember that Powell has always done what the CinC wants
He always prided himself on being the good soldier.

So when Bush wanted him to speak to the UN, and gave no liberty to diverge from a prewritten script, Powell followed orders and did as he was told.

This is probably the first time in his adult life that he voiced an opinion that was completely his own.

I think we need to cut him some slack, going against his own party had to be hard for him.

6. So, was there supposed to be some official request for redemption,
or to repent with sackcloth and ashes? How exactly does that work? I'm not really familiar with the exact requirements for redemption and and repentance. I do know that if redemption is granted it is entirely up to the members of DU to approve it.
