6. I'm voting before I go to work.
I get off at 5 p.m. and have volunteered to drive people to the polls in the evening.

I'm off on the 5th, thank goodness.

7. Since I work in the same building as our polling place,
I'll probably vote first thing in the morning. That will give me a big grin on my face all day! :)

8. Requested off a month ago (and Nov 5th, also, to celebrate)
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 07:55 PM by rainbow4321
Signed up to be a poll greeter..went to a meeting today to learn what to do and not do. The greeters are OUTside the 100ft mark so anything is game (for the most part)..you can dress/be partisan/hand stuff out/direct voters to the right place, etc.. Outside the 100 feet away mark is outside of the jurisdiction of the election judge.

13. poll greeting is fun
get to meet lots of interesting people and to shoot the shit with the opponent poll greeters, lol. Most people won't take the lit, so you just end up chatting with them and showing them where to go.

No interest in handouts. They gave us a hotline number to call if problems break out while people are waiting (lines not moving, anyone being unrightly harrassed/rights violated. Biggest thing to remember: don't be intimidated. Apparently one year, some right winger called the cops on a Dem greeter for being on "church property"..cop came, HE knew the rules and told the Dem "stay put, you are not doing anything wrong"

17. I'll be at the polls from 5:30 am to 10 o'clock pm.
I'm a poll worker. I'll spend the morning signing people in to vote. Maybe I'll get a break for lunch, depending how busy it is. Then the huge rush of people coming after school and work. Maybe the Lions Club with bring around chicken and biscuits (which, let me tell you, is the most delicious food on the planet after a day of working the polls in a chilly gymnasium). At 9 we close up and count the votes and call them in. Then I'll drive home to my husband and kids and sit by the radio and the computer with a freaking huge glass of wine.

24. I don't have a regular set schedule and go in when necessary.
If I have a lot to do, I'll plan on taking care of it on Monday or Wednesday instead. My husband plans to take a vacation day.

I do have Girl Scouts that night, but I've already told my co-leader that I may be taking people to the polls.

26. I work for the State so I'm taking the day off
Probably won't vote until the missus (who doesn't have the day off) gets home so that we can manage the kids while we (wait to) vote.

I think election day should be a national holiday. Deciding our leaders is perhaps one of our most important civic responsibilities and one that every eligible person should be able to do (and it should be made AS EASY as possible for everybody who can and does want to). Also, I think that we need to get rid of all those crazy laws that prohibit felons and ex-convicts (whom supposedly have repaid their "debt" to society) from voting.

29. Parking has always been a problem at my polling place (it's at a middle school).
If I can't vote before work, I may try to come home during lunch to do so. If that doesn't work out, I'll definitely leave work at 5 and if I have to, walk there from my house (the school is across the main road from our neighborhood).

37. Semi-retired and my place will be the staging area for volunteers and campaign workers
On Election Day and the three days before. People will be leaving out of here to take voters to the polls, go door to door, calling, responding to problems at the polls, whatever the campaign wants them doing. This weekend we sent teams out to canvass our end of the county - overwhelming response for Obama!
