Ras: Bush down 8 in California, 50-42

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/California%20Sept%205.htm

Too close for comfort?

I think the gap will open as we get closer to November. Nothing to worry about.

9. Glad I could entertain
He said "is it time to panic?"

What would you have me say? Yes?

There are little battles that get fought that add up to the big victory. Getting Kerry to spend money in a place like Georgia or Getting Bush to spend money in California would be examples.

You should see what the Freepers are making of the poll! "Looks like California is in Play!" etc.

This is Bush's high-water mark. If he make ZERO mistakes from here on out (and Kerry makes no compelling call) then he wins big... and STILL loses California by 6,7,8%

I'd LOVE for him to think he could win it. That's money that doesn't go to Ohio.

but he said, "Too close for comfort?" and your response, "NOPE."

whatever...just seems to be a pattern...maybe you like to play "devils advocate" or you know something we don't...

13. lol. I'm going to go with "both".
Ok, to be clearer. No, nine points is not "too close for comfort". Especially right after a convention. Hardly any candidate EVER outperforms his convention bounce.

California is not in play.

And yes, I love to play devil's advocate.

23. I agree.
And, as the post notes below, it would amount to a landslide victory for Kerry.

I live in S. California and have seen voter registration tables for Kerry everywhere. Am fairly certain those voters are not included in the Rasmussen likely voter poll.

Nine points is a landslide. I worked in politics in Illinois and we were thrilled when we had a nine point lead.

14. I agree, why do Bush supporters insist on hanging out here lurking?
Why don't they volunteer for his stupid war for oil?

2. We have had low voter turnout in LA county
in past elections. They would not be counted as 'likely' voters. Dems have to improve registration and turnout in this important county.

I think Kerry will win this state easily.

4. well, this is after the swift boat liars and the convention bump
so bush shot his wad and all he can do is get to 8 down in Cali, it's still safe Kerry. Gore won by 12 in 2000 and Kerry should win by a similar margin in 2004.

5. It's closer than I would like
But I think a lot of people in California know that Bush isn't very fond of us. Despite being buddy-buddy with the governator, I think a lot of voters will remember him giving us the shaft and letting Kenny Lay and Enron screw us over back during the energy crisis.

I don't think people will forget those tapes, or who got the money that was stolen from them, and who they support.

10. Percentages mean nothing...

Raw percentages quoted without some hard data behind them don't mean anything.

An eight percent lead in California translates into about 1.2 million votes in terms of registered voters. That's a rather hefty lead. Likely voters is less, but still a larger number than, for example, a 20% lead in Oklahoma.

16. In a shrewd kind of way, i'm a bit happy that we're only seeing an 8 point
edge in CA. Given the slim two point Chimpy edge in the nationwide Ras, and that Kerry is up by only 8 in CA, means that the rest of the nation is that much closer. The left coast is not skewing Kerry's overall head-to-head numbers. A stretch perhaps, but i'll take it.

21. HA1 Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! After she went to the Repug convention,
and practically endorsed Bush? She is a sick co dependent who feels her primary "obligation " is not to herself ,her country or her family but to the sick relationship she has with the man who cheats on her and treats her with contempt. Her so called "marriage " is more important to her than her country, her family, or the future of her children. You won't see her campaign unless Arnie has a reason for it.

remark he made. And it was only not to campaign in CA. He certainly is campaigning for him everywhere else, including the convention. And Maria ,enabler that she is ,is accompanying him, and making the repukes look "modreate" for the undecised voter!."If a Kennedy supports then, how bad can they be? Look, Arnie's pro choice! Whoo! Whoo!"

20. We In Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Love Kerry.
I will never ever forgive Bush for his Enron debacle. My husband had to be in the aerospace factory at 12 and 2 and 3 in the morning so he can start the airplane factory and get the machines going for the line workers. I was with a new baby then. It was awful, just awful.
