Do Americans really want a decent man as President?

That Kerry is an honest and decent man, even Republicans would seriously question. That Bush and Cheney are pretty unsavory characters most people know in their hearts. But because they see these two as unsavory they also see them as ruthless. Kind of "strongmen" that will keep them "safe". (The fact that Kerry chased down a Viet Cong and killed him in close combat is also a pretty ruthless act, seems to have escaped them). Are Americans now prepared to make the same Faustian bargain the Israelis made when they elected Ariel Sharon?
