Obama went straight into the heart of southern military town (Fayetteville NC) and asked
for their votes.

There are much friendlier parts of the state to him (very blue areas: Durham and Chapel Hill, for instance) but that's not where he chose to go.

He took it directly to them and didn't flinch, didn't blink. Straight up told him what he was about and asked for their votes.

Seriously, how awesome is that?

2. I'd say that was brilliant. Asking for someone's vote
is the highest compliment. And it's hard to say no without good reason. Barack 'gets it.' He really, really respects people. Can't say that about McC & P.

4. The ground game in North Carolina is so strong, he's already got GOTV handled.
That frees him up to concentrate efforts on picking up new votes in areas ripe for the taking.

The down side to all this is that now John McCain has Obama right where I want him.

7. At least no one would slash tires like McCain supporters did
at the Obama rally in Fayeteville. I swear, the McCain supporters can be quite thuggish.

8. It's incredibly awesome
Go right up to them, look 'em in the eye, and tell them what they already know: that his administration will be better for them than a GOP administration will be. He may have changed a mind or two but the important thing is that he met them face to face. They can't say he didn't listen to them. All but the most benighted of those wretches went to bed impressed with his toughness.
