Are you worried that we might lose this one?
Edited on Mon Sep-06-04 12:23 AM by cqhayes
If you are then rent the movie primary colors. I'm sure you have already seen it but watch it again, it's such a good movie and not only that it will motivate you. It will give you the energy we need right now.

On edit: Maybe I'm compleatly off my rocker.

1. I worry for America.
I don't know if I'll be able to be a Democrat ever again.

If the Dems can't beat Chimpy, then the base should seriously look into forming a real Progressive party. After all, we would have nothing to lose.

4. Ignore the book.
It's a cool movie just watch it with an open mind.

It's obvious that I have "TB", true believers syndrome. lol

11. I did see it...

... what I could stand of it. Stereotypes abounding.

And, it has nada to do with now.

When one starts believing that movies represent some precise version of current reality, one begins to believe what Woodward now writes....

For all the power of fiction to evoke emotions, fiction isn't reality.

Cheers.

17. Well there is that *possible* work of fiction known as the Bible
Edited on Mon Sep-06-04 02:01 AM by mynameisdane
that ages later influences many people's support for war and havoc in the Middle East.

18. Obfuscation.
We aren't talking about the Bible. And the Bible, whether or not it's a work of fiction, is not a good reason to go to war, to my mind. What does it have to do with "Primary Colors?" Nothing.

Now, then. You like the movie. You believe it to be inspiring. Fine. I think it's mediocre and has no relevance to current events.

Cheers.

20. I have never seen the film.
If you would have read my whole post, you wouldn't have assumed that. I was just arguing that a work of fiction can lead people to do otherwise asinine or unlikely things. You could also argue that the novel 1984 has nothing to do with our current politics, but to dismiss it and avoid drawing commonalities between the two would demolish the weariness that many people may have because of the story. You may not personally influenced by these mediums but please respect those who are. Art has always had a role of promoting political awareness.

21. You added the edit much later.
This is what you said in the original post: "If you are then rent the movie primary colors. I'm sure you have already seen it but watch it again, it's such a good movie and not only that it will motivate you. It will give you the energy we need right now."

How do you know it's "such a good movie" if you've never seen it?

I have seen it and you haven't, and you're arguing. C'mon. This kind of shallow game gets very tiresome.

You said nothing about the concepts of art mirroring current affairs. If that's what you intended, why didn't you just say that, instead of, "rent the movie?"

My god, man, this is pretty well the definition of insane--encouraging an argument about something you never said.

And, I did read your whole post. What I say still applies. Time for you to put away the bong and go to bed.

G'night.

22. what the hell is wrong with you?
I edited the post nearly a minute after posting because I left out the apostrophe. Do you always fabricate shit like that to win arguments? I hate Travolta and would never watch the film (although I get free rentals working at a video store).

Also, you do realize that the "edit time" isn't the same as the "post time". I don't know how I'd "added the edit much later" if the edit was done at 2:01 am (the same time as the original post).

I'll be waiting for your apology for completely pulling it out of your ass.

Thanks.

Edited on Mon Sep-06-04 01:04 AM by vetwife
November 3rd is a day that will go down in History..Bank on it !I think history repeats itself and look at the resemblence of Lincoln and Kerry. And I hope that it where it stops. But I got a bad bad feeling about Nov. 3rd. The left has had it and the right don't want to give it up. There lies the problem. I still think Kerry will win and this will upset the daylights out of them !

26. Yes, because of something no one else is focusing on
Republican GOTV advances.

I believe it's the true WMD of this election, aimed smack at unsuspecting us. We stunned Rove and Co. in 2000 with GOTV. They truly expected an electoral waltz then knew it should have been a defeat, based on our union and other ground troops outperforming theirs, identical to '98.

Since 2002 there is considerable evidence they have caught and perhaps surpassed us. GOP friendly corporations are joining churches in passing out voting recommendation pamphlets. Little blurbs in one online newspaper after another mention creative and successful GOP registration drives, especially in swing states, and an unequaled emphasis on foot soldiers and poll place canvassers for Nov. 2, checking voter rolls to determine which GOP voters have not shown up. The Republican email list is reportedly many times our own in number. They have the dough, and pursuits like this are undeniably cash driven and perfected.

Much of this is supposedly modeled after Ralph Reed' 2002 approach in Georgia, non-stop ground war fury the final two weeks and easily ousting incumbents Roy Barnes and Max Cleland. I believe those numbers were legit, hard work and not Diebold. Disgraceful TV ads, of course, in the case of Chambliss/Cleland.
