I see a lot of posts trying to get Dem's hopes DOWN. But really...
...who here plans on giving up at any point in this election for any reason?

Seriously -- I don't think it'll happen, but say this did -- if Kerry goes down 20 pts next week, who here would throw in the towell?

Democrats would work even harder, right?

I mean, one of the reasons they are working so hard is because they already feel that Bush has a iron grip on America. That makes Democrats work super hard. If there were any perceptioin that that grip got even tighter around our throats, I don't think Democrats would just call it a life. They'd struggle even more.

No?

It seems to me that a more effective RW strategy would be to pretend that Bush wasn't going to win to encourage complacency. People have exerted so much energy at this point that if Bush acted like he wasn't going to win, I think there'd be a danger that Democrats would reflexively relax just from the exhaustion fo keeping this fight up for so long.

1. This could work against Bush
and help us if the polls "show" this. Here's how:

1. We can let folks know how polls can be skewed.

2. We can be sure that everyone gets to the polls and votes-after all, the point of all this is to discourage folks from voting at all.

3. We can point out to conservatives that since Bush is "so far ahead" this is their chance to vote third party to "bring the GOP to the right" and more in line with their ideas, be them Libertarian or the Constitution Party.

2. Yeah, if Bush is 11 points ahead, lots of freepers should consider voting
for the liberterians who REALLY want to get government off their back, and who, unlike Bush, don't want to use gov't to reward your cronies with jobs and money, eh?

4. Hey, any way
we can take votes from Bush will help. Most of the conservatives I know have issues that are more in line with Libertarians. There's no way they will vote for Kerry, but a small push would make them vote thrid party.

5. Hmmm....
We are definitely known for complacency and I definitely hope that Bush's strategy backfires. I've expended a LOT of energy over the past month, and it's time for me to go into conservation mode, in case I need to kick back into a higher gear in October. But I'm definitely in this for the long haul, which is only the next two months... not so bad.

I agree, if Bush were complacent and acted as though it was in the bag, we would feel even more defeated. It is his desperation that is actually helping us because it make his campaign vicious, and that will turn off many of the undecideds.
