If Obama and Congressional Dems win, does this place become Democratic Aboveground?
DU was formed as an oppositional website at a time when Democrats and Liberals/progressives were on the ropes. The name became truly apt in the aftermath of 9-11, when anyone even slightly to the left of George W was branded as unpatriotic.

Those of us who have been here a while, are used to seeing defeats and the surpression of almost everything we believe in.

It felt like we were the permanent Underdogs.

But in the last couple of years, the worm has been turning. Gradually, the views here have been seeping into the mainstream zeitgeist. The public now recognizes that the Emperor W has no clothes, that Trickle-Down Reaganomics has been a house of cards and the Right Wing GOP are a bunch of louts and con-artists.

And, in a couple of weeks, we may be in for an Era-Shifting Sea Change in which the Democratic Party may actually be in charge.

So, will we still be the "underground"?

4. I understand what you are getting at...but I would suggest no....
...because the url http://www.democraticunderground.com should never be changed. It holds all the archived data which is linked to by all the search engines. You can't buy that kind of credibility.

5. Until the right wing corporate and media dominance is brought under control...
There will still be a strong need for the Democratic Underground

7. DU will always be underground
It was made up of nine-percenters, after all.

(There was an approval poll where * actually had 91% approval at one time)

8. The way that this place sometimes gets ...
I would expect it to be bitching and picking apart a lot of stuff going on in the DEM-CONTROLLED House and Senate.

LIBERAL Democrats to push that agenda.

Of course we will have to defend Pres. Obama and the Dem Congress from right-wing attacks, but we should not close our eyes to actions and policies that come out of the new DC which go against that perspective.
