Booked the room for D.C. on Inaugeration Day.
I'm convinced we are going to win this one and I wouldn't want to miss it for anything.

That said, I'm going back to Pennsy to canvass for Obama this weekend. Can't take anything for granted but I have my reservation for the party!

The rooms are going fast (took a while to find one) so book now if you are so inclined.

1. That's the only reason I wish I still lived in DC
What a party (or more appropriately parties!) there will be! For once since I left I will miss being in DC that night. Plus getting the day off work due to the fact that just about every business in DC closes on Inaugeration Day because of traffic restrictions, the bleachers on Pennsylvania Ave., security, etc.

The Illinois Ball will be the place to be -- can you imagine the reception President Obama will get there? And damn, will he look good in a tux or what? And I guarantee that no matter what Michelle wears she will be 1,000% better dressed and more beautiful and gracious than the beer heiress.

Class wins out, every time.

3. Did a fabulous DC vacation Rental By Owner 5 months ago.
In no way am I trying to advertise but this is something that I have done about 5 times. Love doing it!

We'll have a great house in DC, great neighborhood.

It is rare that I stay in hotels anymore.

My family/friends always go to www.vrbo.com and have had great success!

We have a lovely home that can sleep 8 for far less than we could ever get at a hotel. And -- we're all together!

5. I second your VRBO recc
We have looked for properties through that site for 2 vacations. Both we times ended up booking elsewhere, but they have a one of the best selections of reasonably priced properties in a time that hotels are completely out of control (plus you can cook your own meals and pour your own drinks when you rent, and no crazy hotel taxes, fees and tips)

The only hotel I like for vacations anymore is Residence Inn.

6. You are so right about vrbo and Residence Inn

is my favorite too for hotels.

I can't deal with the huge hotels and all the trappings.

I love having my coffee/breakfast/snacks with my entire family and not running down the hall to Aunt Suzie's room.

I've had great rentals in Virginia, Palm Springs, Monterey and I'll have to report on DC but I'm sure it will be fabulous.

I can also invite other friends in for a party at my own house and look at the HD TV all day at our next President.

4. I almost did that today
but decided not to. I don't want to bring any kind of bad luck to the campaign. Kind of like when I watch the Browns they lose. When I don't, they win.

Thank God I have a brother who lives in Virginia who I can stay with.

There probably will not be any rooms available in DC for January 20th.
