Is anyone else hearing this Republican stem cell lie?

I've heard it on news talk shows, call in shows and seen it on some message boards.

The lie is that Bush was the first President to approve Federal funding for stem cell research after Clinton had banned it.

I think Republicans know their stance on stem cell research is very unpopular and they are trying their best to confuse voters. We need to do something to stamp out this meme, because the media is sure to let them get away with it.

Clinton had set up the funding on his way out, Bush rolled it way back.

I thought Bush's position that he wasn't going to add any additional funding coming from the government for stem sell research.

Of course in August of 2001, Bush gets the "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US" PDB and he decides to talk about stem cell research instead...
